Squirly has an excellent point. It is my hope that the death penalty would only be given in the cases of the most heinous crimes.
I don't believe it is our part in life to be able to choose who lives or who dies but when you see the crimes that have been committed and the families that have suffered, for them if putting the defendant to death gives them some closure then I am all for it.
And then I also agree with Riya that being locked up would seem to be more of a punishment I have a hard time justifying caring for someone who has committed such crimes.
I agree with you to a point riya...but the only problem I see with just a prision sentance is that the prisioner is getting 3 meals a day, a roof over their head, clean clothing, able to bathe daily and so on...while the people of the State or Government are the ones paying for it all...
where is the real punishment...other than the loss of their freedom to move about??
the over crowding in the prision system here in the US is unbelieveable, they are putting the drug dealers and gang bangers back out on the streets because they need the room for someone else.....
That's true about the overcrowding and the releasing of prisoners. They have reduced the sentences of crack dealers to be more in line with those of cocaine offenders.
This debate has been going on for sometime. Some people believe that crack sentences (which are/were harsher) discriminate against poorer ie:black criminals.
While others believe that crack dealers are more violent offenders, which is what caused the higher sentences to begin with.
Having seen the devastation that crack can cause on people, families, and whole communities I am especially concerned that these dealers will only become repeat offenders.
Always have been, always will, but I don't want to participate in any debate on it because it's futile. The arguments for or against are already well known and have been debated to the hilt. I'm not at all surprised by the results though, the pro lobby has been steadily increasing for a number of reasons and will continue to do so.
Against. The death penalty is not a deterrent. It has been proven over and over. So then the purpose of enforcing such a punishment must be vengeance. I'm not a very religious person when it comes to following any established religion. I think they all combine truths mixed with confusion caused by the imperfect people who created them and make the rules. However, the Ten Commandments and the bible itself can be a guide for any person who understands the importance of morals and doing unto others as you would have done unto you. "Vengeance is mine said the lord" (OK sayeth). So the answer is NO WAY.
Under no circumstances do I agree with the death penalty. That just makes you the same as the person who has been accused. No one has the right to take a life,no matter how the justify it.
why would someone be afraid to have a taste of his own medicine ?? people should murder others knowing that its okay as long as they will pay with their own lives...... and once a murderer, always a murderer, wether we like it or not.
God has given us the power to make laws, u have to be at peace with man before you can be at peace with God. if the laws of man say u loose your life for taking another, God says so. The voice of the people is the voice of God.
