Veritaas: If you are applying for a job,it is best advised that you do fill in any forms pertaining to existing or on going medical conditions. This should not reflect on the persons ability to carry out the job. But if an employer does find out you have not disclosed certain information they too have the right to dismiss you from your current role.
Now in a contract of employment there is often a clause stating that if you have not disclosed certain information or falsified your claims then this can lead to instant dismissal.
A person who has been dismissed can actually claim for grounds of unfair dismissal, this can be very difficult to prove at times depending on what is drawn up in your contract of work.
Many people fail to actually read any HR documentation, or employment contract provided, and therefore think that being economical with the truth will not affect their position.
I can only stress that people must read such policies and contracts with an eagle eye.
Should not and will not, are unfortunately, miles apart.
sxc666: I am fabulous John, busy at Uni but love it. Hope you have been well
Retirement life is perfect. I am enjoying everyday. I often wonder how I had time to work. There aren't enough days in the week to explore everything I want to do. Thanks for asking.

That indeed they are. But at the end of the day it is not down to your friend to take it on board himself not to disclose this kind of information. In fact it is best to be honest about any medical conditions because then the employer is aware, if anything was to happen to an employee in the work place.
A company I used to work for employed a person without them disclosing their medical condition (which was quite serious), he put his life in great danger. Luckily we were able to sort this out. But he was relieved from his duties he was currently employed to carry out and put elsewhere.
Rather than giving him the outright sack, to put it bluntly his backside was saved due to making people see reason and coming up with a solution as to how to resolve these kinds of issues. So therefore I put in place that any future employees must provide verifiable Dr's references, certificates ensuring they are physically and mentally fit to perform their job, to include past history also, going back 10 years. Certain working environments it is absolutely necessary to do so, otherwise this can hinder operations. Tough world we live in.
Anyone ever hear of the GINA Act (Genetic Information Non Discrimination Act) that was just just passed into law here in the US last year? It is a major triumph to protect people with genetic mutations from discrimination with employers and insurance companies. It was 17 years in the making and many attempts to get it passed. Still has areas to be hammered out but at least it's a start A employer now cannot fire you or not promote you because you have a disease caused by a genetic mutation. Diabetes in many cases is genetically inherited. Since diabetes in general does not impact a person as to how well they can do their job(depending on the job of course), then there is no reason that an employer can fire someone or not promote someone who has not disclosed it. However, law enforcement employees can be required to disclose that personal information as it can be used to make sure that it isn't contaminating a crime scene or lab samples as in exposure monitoring. Many employers get around the issue of asking that question by having a voluntary Health Wellness Program for employees to join whereby the employee fills out a health questionaire regarding personal and family history. Then they are steeered to participate into a wellness program that is the most beneficial for them according to their personal and family history. An employer can look at this history but cannot use it discriminately against an employee. Interestingly, the Americans With Disabilities Act prevents and employer from collecting any genetic information on a person if the Wellness program is not a voluntary one. I.E: a program that offers cash or prize incentives for people to join. Some of the flaws yet are that it doesn't cover the Indian Health Service or Military Veterans plans or an enlisted military person who develops a disease within 6 months of enlistment. If the military person becomes ill from a genetic mutation in that time, the miltary medical insurance does not have to cover them. There is also no protection for Life, Diability or Long Term Care insurances either so these entities can legally ask you if you have a genetic mutation and deny you coverage based on that, even if you don't have an illness from a genetic mutation. Not everyone with a genetic mutation will get the genetic disease that goes along with it. This is a major win for families with children who have had a genetic illness but are now free of it and very healthy. These children were uninsurable when the insurance companies dropped their coverage of the children. Now, the insurance companies are required to cover a healthy child, in spite of their past history from a genetic mutation. It is also a major win for people with BRCA mutations who may wish to have a prophylactic masectomy or oophrectomy to decrease their future risk of the cancers involved. Insurance companies are required to pay for this type of treatment.

Today they closed the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi to fishing. The oil slick has started impacting our coast.

I was listening to news reports about it on the radio. The impact will no doubt have a massive financial affect on themselves and their livelihoods, for those that rely on this industry as their income.
On the radio this one guy had just brought himself a $100,000 refrigeration system, but he cannot go out and fish due to the closures. So therefore is not in a good position to make the repayments.
why would you care, if someone does not want you there is it worth it to toil over people who have problems and you want to work aside them, I walk away, trying my best to be decent at exit, I have been called back after they realized what value I was to them, I laugh all the time by then I have figured out where they are weak as I use to own my own companies before, I don't bother to assist in company profile, some people get very insecure fast if you can see what they see...

That is so sad, John. My heart goes out to everyone there. This is going to really affect everybody. Just think of the wildlife it is going to kill, too. So devastating.
