I have my last ever exam on Friday 21st...odds are I'll be passed out drunk in a ditch somewhere on the weekend of the 24th. Maybe I'll luckily be passed out in Glendalough having not made it all the home

I'll go with the flow but if others like me are travelling, it would be nice to have some nocturnal activities too! Failing that we could go to the pub as usual!
JustLittleMe: So the plan is to have some tayto and cheese sandwiches, only question is when suits best?
Nice idea about the picnic but glendalough is a nightmare to get to and from by public transport and limited accomodation or places to go for the night there, an afternoon picnic with cs football tournament or board games, zoo if anyone fancied it or bikes for hire in the pheonix park would guarantee a better showing as it is near the main train stations and people coming up from the country could get accomodation in the city centre and make a night of it out on the town, not scuppering your plans just throwing an idea in the hat.

Certainly a good idea to stick around town what with the logistics involved etc getting to Glendalough. But just doesnt have the same appeal does it?!! Even though the Phoenix Place is beautiful if the weather is nice. Like you say...plenty of options! The Zoo, Farmleigh House is fab for a walk around and a coffee in the Courtyard, even the Kiosk there beside the Zoo is a lovely place to have a coffee and sit and have a chat/watch the world go by! Sometimes theres even a jazz band or the likes playing in the band stand just behind the Kiosk. And for those energetic folk theres plenty of walks around the Park too?
As for the date...17th would be the only date I'd be able to make...
Mini hijack here now.... whens the replay between Kildare and Antrim Stanley? See the massive win we had over Mayo last wknd!! No doubt we'll have to give Glen a little bit of credit for that!!

Saturday night in casement park , I,m going to stay up there overnight but have been warned that belfast city centre isn't the safest place to be wandering around at night with a GAA jersey on with the marching season so close, anyway should be a belter of a replay and surely we won't kick 21 wides again , reckon kildare should win it by four or five points, yeah fair play to longford and hope ye do well, were you at the game? who are ye meeting next?

Good grief. Some of us are making the effort to travel a good deal further...200 miles in my case. Come on ye Dubs. Make an effort for a change and stop expecting everything to suit yourselves and be on your doorstep. Someone has taken the trouble to suggest a picnic in Glendalough so stop trying to hijack it for Dublin.

How would you be planning on traveling if your going buddy
Dont think there was anyone trying to 'hijack it for Dublin'??!!! Was merely a suggestion I thought?? Like I said ... The Phoenix Park or anywhere else certainly doesnt have the same ring about it for sure as a picnic out in the beautiful surrounds of Glendalough!

You calling me a "DUB," aah now there is no need to insult a proud kildare man like that, my friend from the hilly part of England.

OK I am not sure if I am free to go to anything in Wicklow, but since I am from there I can say....
There buses every day to Glendalough from Dublin City centre (not the tour buses either!). They run at decent times. If people wanted to go out for the night, Laragh is 5 minutes from Glendalough and it has a nice a pub and a restaurant with a bar. Depending on numbers, it would be too difficult for the pople going to get a taxi/minbus into Wicklow Town either.
Accommodation should not be a problem as there is a hotel in Glendalough and plenty of other places nearby in Laragh, Roundwood etc. It is one of the busiest tourist areas in the country so there are plenty of hotels, B&Bs etc in the vicinity. Then Rathdrum is 20 minutes away by car, more B&Bs, train station is there too along with Avondale Forest Park and whatnot. Anybody that has to come by train could get off at Rathdrum and head to Glendalough. Rathdrum is only 3 stops after Greystones and about and hour and ten minutes from Connolly Station.
Plus a picnic in Glendalough is so much nicer than being in Dublin!
That may or may not help anybody thinking of going to the picnic!
Well my last post that was not a correction...but you got what I mean! The bus is normally around 6e one way, 10 or 11 return. If you are going by car it is pretty quick too. Down the n11 and turn off at Kilmacanogue. It is about 20 minutes from the turn off.
