I stopped smoking 2yrs. ago ... for myself!

crotalus667: I am just wondering , as I have come across a lot of profiles where I think yep she sounds fantastic and then it has “smokes regularly” which to be honest for me is the biggest turn off
and on the flip side,alot of gals here dont wanna date a guy that smokes,,, so i would attempt to give up,,,but they usually start nagging which makes me wanna smoke,so ya just cant win

At the moment, I'm a "take me as I am" person. But if the girl I'm seeing really has a problem with it, I'd stop. Need an excuse to quit anyway. I wouldn't stop so I can date someone but if it starts getting serious and it's a problem then why not? Saves me money, I smell better and I'm healthier. Actually, don't know why I'm smoking now. Should probably quit either way.

I think it has to be your own decision to quit !
You have to want to quit and have to
be in the right mindframe to quit .
No-one can tell you to quit cos you wont listen
you"ll probably become even more stubborn about it .
Its a turn off for me too
but sure you cant change someone they have
to make up their minds

I actually don't know haven't been in the situation really before. I was a smoker since early teens and gave up when the smoking ban came in, would get sick at the smell of them off my ex's breath to be honest BUT and this I never thought would happen I started smoking again last year and have quit regularly on and off over the past few months but to no avail keep starting again 
As most of you know its a really hard addiction to break and requires will power and dedication so I'd never ask anyone to quit just because I didn't like it....you take people as they are in my opinion

as stupid as it sounds i smoked to fit in.. only started when i was 18 last i was legal but when we were heading out i was the only one who didnt smoke so ended up in the smoking area anyway so was inhaling..
if you cant change people change the people your around saw that on the forums today but its true as soon as i changed a social setting smoking seemed less important.. nowadays i do sometimes crave one but suck my thumb instead

so thats my craving for the last 21years and no shame in it

Put on weight if your future partner did not like thin
Take drugs as your future partner takes them regularly

exactly because if it doesnt work out you made your own unhappiness.. yes we can compromise to make things better but it could cause tension and make things worse..
we have to be selfish in some cases and do stuff for ourselves

I will say this smokers need to quit for themselves! Although there are many factors that will make someone try to quit
Years ago I did just that but rather then give up for myself while in the horrors of withdrawal I only became disgruntled although I understood that he wanted me to quit for health reasons (& his obvious dislike of them). I just resented the fact and while we dated for many years I never truly gave them up out of respect I rarely smoked in front him my then partner.

think some folk can be a bit judgemental/self-righteous when it comes to these things
most of us have one vice or other (or several) - cigarettes/food/alcohol, whatever it may be. nobody's perfect. think we should accept people for what they are, not what they do to their own bodies (as long as this doesn't have an effect on the other person - the actual relationship etc)

I had a relationship with a smoker, who only smoked outside my house and never in the car when I was around, because I have asthma.
My sinuses go nuts with smoke too.
Now, it would have to be one hell of a man that I would even look in his direction knowing he is a smoker...

i think if we approach life worrying about other peoples bad habits,we can miss out on so much, we need to see past the external and see the heart and character personality
of a person, they are the things that make us who we are

But it does effect the other person if you dont smoke and your around someone that does your going to be inhaling the smoke and another reason would be the smell of cigarettes i cant stand it and i get bad pains in my head from it so to say it dosent effect the other person i would have to disagree with you on that
