Well it is for me but i cant speak for every non smoker
Last time I gave up I started to date a smoker and naturally enough one thing led to another and now I'm back smoking.
I cant give up for myself so no hope of giving up for someone else,

true.. but anyone ive date just so happened to be non-smokers, and i have fancied those who have smoked but as soon as they light up its a turn off same with mates..

i dont think its a bit much because if i dated a non smoker, i know myself if would drive me mad after a few dates dont smoke around me, in my car, my home etc i come from a family of non smokers so..
just my opinion and ye are all right i should never rule any possibilities but.. if u dont like something its going to be hard to change or accept......

You've a good point. I'm a smoker but I'm fully aware that it may annoy other people. I don't smoke around non smokers unless I really need to and even then I make sure I step back from them and NEVER smoke in their house or near kids etc.
I know all the usual explanations of people who eat badly, have kids, drink and everything. But I don't have to date those people if I don't want to and you should be able to choose whether you want to date someone, like me, who smokes. It's an unhealthy habit that can directly hurt the people you are close to and I completely understand why you wouldn't want to date someone who does.
But, on the other hand, I do so I think smokers have to be very aware about who they're around and where they are when they do. I hate smokers who smoke in the car with their kids, in non-smokers houses, on busses. Basically any situation where the people around them don't have a choice as to whether or not they want to be near it.
But I hate the PUB ban!!! Hypocritical, I know.
I would not give up smoking just to please someone else.
If someone told me what to wear, how to wear my hair, what to eat, what to work at, what car to drive etc. etc. (in order to please them) ... I would think them rude and would have little if anything to do with them. Same with people who would ask me to stop smoking just to please them.

in relevance to the poll no i wouldn stop someone smoking if we were together its not my choice, id just try and date someone who didn..

I have always been a light smoker always considerate of those that don't smoke so no I wouldn't give up in order that someone love me just as I wouldnt ask it of them.
What I dont like in society today is how smokers are being looked down upon as being second rate citizens and have had limits put on them.Do we not also have rights as members of society? Here in Australia they are not allowed to have them on display yet Alcohol which does destroy lives in more ways than one is on display everywhere let alone sold everywhere and yet that's ok and is seen as a social habit.Is that because most polititicans are alcoh's?.Shame the smokers who werent drinkers didnt try the same stunt..
I have 3 adult children and altho at the time smoked no more than a packet of 20 a week I gave it up whilst I was expecting my eldest and started up again when I returned to the work force when she was 2 1/2 yet she is the only one of my offspring that smokes.. Thank you for posting and thank you to all that shared with their answers.

I was a smoker since early teens and gave up when the smoking ban came in, would get sick at the smell of them off my ex's breath to be honest BUT and this I never thought would happen I started smoking again last year and have quit regularly on and off over the past few months but to no avail keep starting again
As most of you know its a really hard addiction to break and requires will power and dedication so I'd never ask anyone to quit just because I didn't like it....you take people as they are in my opinion
