Honestly, I kind of enjoy seeing the unemployment rate continue to rise. It won't change before November.

First off....the Chinese do have a new long hybersonic cruise missile. It was just announced today. And the Russians have a joint program with Brazil for new stealth fighter bomber. Prototypes are flying. And they have the 'defenseless warhead'. So the other two super power are advancing their weapon programs.
If they keep advancing them.....make it 7 to 10 years we are in third place.
GWB gave.....Obama in military systems....the F-35, F-22, the new interceptor, the Osprey, the Tomahawk boomers and a few others.
The F-35 program has been cut back. The F-22 program ended. And number of other DoD advanced weapons programs gutted. And he is not replacing them. And if the REP are right, START has terms for the limiting the deployment of Interceptor in it. They cut $110b from DoD's advanced weapon budget, one week into their term in Jan of 2008. Likely more since then.
It is not that Obama will not deploy advanced systems. He will.
He deployed the new Tomahawk Boomers. It gave him a real edge with NKorea. So he sees the need and application of advanced military system. For his own administration.
