I think they can work .. personally ... I dated a guy from Colraine in 2000.. think it was 6 hrs trip to Ennis each way .. and he did it on a regular basis for over a year and a half.. it was not the distance.. it was more me .. and I was scared of the long term commitment ..
but then again I'm a romantic .. I think if the person is the one distance is no object.. i know soppie romantic hey ...
I've had 2 relationships in Tipp, a two hour drive each way and the ending of both had nothing to do with the distance. I think they can work but not enough people give them a chance..JMO

It can work for some harmless fun,but not longterm, personally i've dated girls from different parts of country too and at least we've remained good friends

7sins: It's the governments fault with crap roads as someone said, I'd be lucky to meet someone from 3 mile down the road with the pot holes in KERRY!!!
Well I am from Donegal, now seeing a lady from Killarney the past few months.... nothing serious, yet !..... I don't believe distance to be a problem, in fact I believe it may be a good thing. We spend the weekend together if works suits us both, if not then we're a phone call away.
Sometimes, distance is a good thing, if you have to put effort in at the start of a relationship, can only make the relationship stronger ... if the right person, distance won't matter and you can get from one end of the country to the other with relative ease ... along the motorways
well i have been online a very long time back in early 90s was not as much choice for dating sites as now went to usa to meet 1 lady had another from usa meet me here and met have travelled to netherlands estonia leeds london for meets on another site
It can work, but requires a great deal of effort and patience on both parts :) I've never been against the idea, but never really been involved in something long distance. For the right people, it will work, for sure.

I agree. I think distance is only a problem if you let it be one and i know its a cliche but absence definitely DOES make the heart grow fonder...JMO.
