llfrfgt: yes indeed, brian may, i have a recent ian hunter live dvd and brian may joins mick ralphs on guitars with ian on keys, smokin' all the way from memphis, ,,,, billy gibbons, great but lost me in the 80's
yea, i tend to agree with you about billy gibons in the 80s...although, he did play a good track on ''ruff boy''...
i really can't think, off hand, of a cleaner player than brian may
duane allman and let us not forget dickey betts live at the fillmore, WOW. fogerty i put him in with mark farner from grand funk for some reason, love both, highly underrated both of em.
All of the afore mentioned are great in their own right, but I don't see a single name of anyone who came before themm who inspired them. How about:
Bo Diddley
Chuck Berry
Buddy Holly
Link Wray, the father of the power cord.
James Burton, who put down some of the greatest guitar riffs in rock history, for Rick Nelson, Elvis, Rot Orbison and others. He is my personal favorite.
I guarantee you ALL of the players in the poll, learned something from at least one or more of the 'old timers'

hell yea, wix....you tell 'em....chuck berry has got to be one of my all time favorites....i don't know where my head was at for not thinking of him before....thanks for bringing me back to my senses...
Of the few I have have mentioned, LINK WRAY could be the least known by name of the bunch, but arguably the most influential over all. He not only invented the power Chord on his classic 'Rumble', but he also invented the distortion that is heard on virtually every rock song recorded today. He did it by poking holes in his speaker with a pencil. Now adays, distortion is electronically made, but he was the cornerstone and template.
CLAPTON IS GOD! WAS A REFERENCE RELATED TO HIS PLAYING ON THE JOHN MAYALL'S BLUESBREAKERS ALBUM 1966, KILLER!!!!!! ANYONE KNOW THAT ALBUM?,CLAPTON FANS SHOULD ALREADY HAVE THIS

Think I have every Clapton CD in existance! The man is STILL an absolute legend, and the way he came thorugh his addictions to heroin & alcohil are an inspiration!
Also missing from the poll are:
Jeff Beck Buddy Guy The late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan
You would love the l3 minute live version of "Goin' Home" by Alvin Lee - has to be played at ear-bleeding volume

Clapton and Mayall are definitely near the top
"Wonderful Tonight" comes to mind frequently
"Lookin back" from the Bluesbreakers is another that plays in my head

I have both LP and CD. His cover of Albert King's, 'Hideaway', was a dead nuts, carbon copy of the original. Chord for chord. A great tribute to another great guitar player.

Jimi123499: Who was the best Rocker Guitarist Ever?
See if we can find the best one in our own top 10.
I spent a week with Jimi, Noel and Mitch in The Hillside Club in Folkestone, Kent. UK. This poll is only to find what each individual thinks and therefore in my opinion Jimi was not the best Rocker Guitarist ever...............but he was a damn good entertainer!
Noel equally was not the best on Bass but was also 'one' of the best, as is Mark King of Level 42.
As for Drummers Mitch was Ok...........Ginger Baker better.
It's all a question of styles and possibly why we are all different in our music attitudes, a good question for a poll and a chance for anyone to give their thoughts on what personality has given them more pleasure.
When it comes to Lead Singer, dare l say Steve Perry!
Apart from my work l don't have anything else in my life except music and l am grateful for all the pleasure l have had and am still receiving daily!
saw alvin lee 30 years ago in detroit played a 30 minute "can't keep from crying, sometimes" the audience was stunned, he took us to the outer limits, when alvin was done people were just looking at the stage with their mouths hanging open. one of the great live guitarists ever!!

What he says
Chuck Berry was a storyteller extraordinaire with a guitar... "Ridin' along in my automobile doodle loodle loodle loo, my baby next to me at the wheel... "
everyone talks of springsteen playing 3-4 hour shows WELL. early 80's i witnessed rory gallagher play for three & a half hours, they had to turn on the house lights to get him to come off the stage and he refused and continued playing for another half hour with the house lights on, you never hear about that in rolling stone. rest in peace rory, top 10 all time in my book!
