I think that a reply is only necessary when a post requires it or another bit of information might be added. Also, the person that starts the post should reply enough times to keep it on track.
Usually I treat threads as conversation and expect people to participate. If there are no interest I see no reason to push the issue. I try to keep every one happy and try to respond to everyone until I loose interest my self. I don't have any special attachments to my threads but I review them ones in a while

Regardless of the type of thread .. what is according to you.. a good way to OP a thread .. answer to each reply ? selective replies ? say thankyou ?
