Myself, I lost my best schoolpal to a fire caused by a discarded cigarette when I was aged 9 so always been very fire safety aware.
However, I hear of so many people dying in housefires lately in my area This one is especially tragic. A woman lost her three kids in a fire last November and she herself has only just regained consciousness from a coma to realise she lost her kids in the fire.
Sadly only two, and I had to force my parents to allow me to instal them. Both are battery-operated smoke detectors.
My mum also refuses to have a fire extinguisher in the house, which is totally beyond me, cos in my opinion it´s far more harmful not to have one when one is needed, than to have one without ever having to use it!!
In comparison to a lot of other countries the UK is miles ahead when it comes to fire safety.

Canada is very regulated this way as well. I was shocked when I first moved to Mexico in this regard, but after living here for awhile, I realized why its not such a big thing here. I dont like concrete but I also see the practicality of it.
rightofwayone: Have no fear, when we touch everyone else will disapear from our universe and you and I will melt together as one and be in complete exstacy
So, you´re not just hot, you can be cheesy too?? You make me want a ham and cheese toasty now...
venusenvy: None...nada zilch...Everything here is built out of concrete so fire isnt really a huge concern here
Since a lot of people involved in a fire die from the effects of the smoke and not the actual fire I think you'll find being built of concrete is not as safe as you think.
ali110: Fortunatly all of my family members dont smoke
Hey, fire can start from an electrical fault
Around 6 years ago I was working at a biggish shop when one of the electrical plugs sparked and set a nearby display on fire. In a matter of minutes the shop was filled with smoke and everything was covered with a layer of smokey film/soot or whatever it's called.
Luckily, the deputy manager managed to out it with a fire extinguisher and even luckier it was 9.20am on a bank holiday monday so the shop didn't open until 10am. If shop had been full of people it would have been a right panic as many of the customers are pensioners, disabled and also many kids.

How many smoke alarms do you have in your home? and are they different types?(Vote Below)

So, anyway I've decided to add an extra alarm and just ordered a photosensitive one for the downstairs. Same as the one I have upstairs.
I know there are all different types, even carbon monoxide/smoke alarms combined etc
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on fire safety or just feel free to add your vote
