A lot of the FG policies infuriate me, FF are the cause of so many problems and I would not trust Sinn Fein with anything ... Independents can be good but their interests tend to be too localised to make any real impact when they are elected
I still haven't decided yet who to vote for. But I do know some of those I wouldn't give any of my preferences to.
These are
Fianna Fail and independents linked to it directly or indirectly Sinn Fein Greens and independents who are running solely on green issues ULA Ultra Left leaning independents Ultra right leaning independents Gombeen politicians Sole issue candidates
And I'm still not sold on FG and Labour.
So it doesn't really leave a lot for me on the ballot paper.
Maybe we need a None of the Above selection from now on.

neither fg or labour have fully explained there policies, labour have made promises that they knew the would never have to keep
I think this is the first election that I have seen so many people put so much thought into how they are voting.
I've heard people who have always voted the same way... based on years of family tradition... who are seriously considering their votes this time and not just plodding along as before.
jimbo79: i am too, i have not seen one viable option to vote for
It amazes me yet it doesn't, as it's so typical...the last election when FF were messing up and could only get worse, people still voted them in yet again and then they moan and complain when it all went pear shaped yet they were the ones who voted them in!(not everybody). I'm still undecided, there is only one person would vote for but he's independant, and as was said, their interests are more local related and doesn't give a major impact on the country. Right now, wouldn't be happy with any of the parties running the country but we don't have much choice!

I agree, so many have voted on as you said, family tradition. It's good to see people are actually thinking this time round
fine gael all the way even if kenny is an imbecile. I've even persuaded my staunch ff father to vote fg for the first time ever. My cousin who was considering sinn fein is now voting labour.

wexlady41: I can't see that happening to be honest.
Honestly I don't no enough about politics to understand any of it really, but I no the greens would ruin a lot of lives closely related to me... so get a message like that makes me think...
70Libra: Why waste the petrol? Stay home and don't vote at all.
If i dont vote at all then I have no say. I dont agree with any of the parties ultimate objectives so why vote for something I do not agree with. Spoiling a vote is still a vote, be it a vote of no confidence

the ula are idiots, im a socialist but some of there economic policies are bordering on insane
sinn fein, i had intended on voting for them, but apart from there bond holder burning not much else appeals to me
labour, totally devoid of any talent apart from ruairi quinn, gilmore is a bluffer and the just make up policy as the go along
fine gael, i have been on a committee with the local candidate and if it wasn't for their policies or clarity of them i would consider him
fianna fail, well they got us into the mess, but there the only party with a detailed plan out of it, but i couldn't vote for them
tanner: Honestly I don't no enough about politics to understand any of it really, but I no the greens would ruin a lot of lives closely related to me... so get a message like that makes me think...
They certainly ruined Brian Cowen's and he's from Offaly like you!
kopy32: "Right now, wouldn't be happy with any of the parties running the country but we don't have much choice"
Hence me spoiling my vote
Spoling a vote is just ridiculous ... and I always think it is an affront to people in countries where they don't get a chance to vote....and an affront to the people who founded our own country. I think if you can't find a party that you are willing to vote for you should just vote for the candidate you find the most decent and trustworthy

It's just wasting time.
Spoiled votes have no bearing on the result. They are set aside and only counted as a curiosity.

that is true, 42% of the voters decided on ff the last time, all the signs were there that the country was in trouble, but people chose to ignore it, i wonder how many people would admit to voting for them if asked now

I agree!!
Everyone who has a vote should use it. Better to give a vote to someone you would like to get a shot at a seat even if you know they won't.
Spoiling a vote is no advantage to anyone... in fact it plays into the hands of the person you least want to get elected as it's one less vote against them.
