Absolutely flipping not!!! Who in the hell comes up with these ideas? I want that kind of job - paid well - where I can just come up with random stupid ideas AND get people to fall for them I mean really...do we not, as a nation, have bigger and better issues to tackle??? (JMHFO)

Being an Australian I can't offer an opinion. . . . . but down here the very same issue pops up from time to time.
The political correctness mob are trying to shred ours to bits. Some people just want to forget the past and start again with a "feel good" load of crap put together by doooooooo gooders who are ashamed of our history.
If it was to happen we would be having a new national anthem every generation.
The English version? The French version? The bilingual version?
They have ALL been changed, several times,...and in between "God Save the King" and "God Save the Queen" were used. I know, I am old like dirt,....I remember the time when the flag you saw waving at the Olympics didn't even exist!!
And who knows,....maybe someday our anthem will be us singing the question about the little Mexican boy with eyes so poor we begin to wonder, as the caring Canadians that we are, if he we be able to function in the earliest hours of the morning,.... "Jose can you see, by the dawns early light?"
Personally, I think Taking Care of Business (substitute Canada for Business) by Bachman Turner Overdrive would be a great anthem!

Nope, won't work as its not the same amount of syllables. We'd have to change the name of the country!!
By what I understand the present version has not been virtually changed in the last 100 years and the idea is to make our National Anthem gender neutral by changing "all thy sons command" to its original version "thou dost in us command" and it's being brought up again because of all the medals won by Canadian women in Vancouver's 2010 Winter Games. The opposition parties are saying they have no problem with reconsidering the wording but also want more concrete action taken to encourage the equality of men and women.
At the moment there are much bigger and more important issues/problems that need to be solved but I personally think this can also be looked at, considered and changed if it suits the majority of Canadians both male and female.
oohh ya i almost forgot ..the conservitives hav got a new clown in ottawa usta be a good political reportername of mike duffy ..now the cons are sending out please gimmie money e mails over his name so i fward stuff that i would normaly just delete.i dont kno if i am doing any good but it gives me a bit of pleasure to thing that i pissed off a political clown
I think this politically correct thing is getting out of hand. Where does it stop? The Canadian anthem is just fine and geez if someone complains because they feel left out...get over it already.

I would like to see this crap be even thought of in the US or any other country. This is the only Country that i know of that would even entertain the thought of changing the National anthem and have some nut on national tv saying that the word son's is insulting to woman. If she does not like our national anthem the way it is then pack your crap you nut and get out. Or do your part in the Army and go fight for the right to complain like our father's and grandfather's. Three of my family died fighting for our country and the national anthem is a part of our heritage. And any Canadian that has been in the Army and has had family die in battle will agree that even thinking about changing a part of our Anthem is criminal to say the least and disrespectful to the men and women that gave there lives for Canada.

I think that each of the political parties; Libs, Cons and the NDP should each have their own versions that Canadians could sing for which ever party is in power. Each version should/ must reflect what their basic beliefs are. If not, then how about Louie Louie, everyone can like that one!
I read on the news that the Conservatives decided they would "Let well enough alone" and not change our National Anthem based on "overwhelming" public opposition.
I think somebody in the Gov office has a little too much pay on their hand, thus a pay freeze is in order. I think all those men that lost their lives in World WAR is what the anthem is about. Will Russia , Cuba, China, Korea ever going to change their anthem? I think Not!
I don't know...I think maybe changing the National Anthem to include old guys would be rather nice. I do feel a bit left out when singing it.
Maybe right after, True Patriot Love....Our Old Guys Can Stand Up. With glowing hearts, their things can rise....
Something like that maybe. We could maybe even add a couple more verses...get some more minorities in there...like maybe one from the song I've Been Everywhere....we could make it into something like We Come From Everywhere (and name off 2 or 300 countries everybody comes from )...The True North Strong and Free...( I think we have to change the free thing...not much of that anymore. )
"O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love thou dost in us command. We see thee rising fair, dear land, The True North, strong and free; And stand on guard, O Canada, We stand on guard for thee.
Refrain O Canada! O Canada! O Canada! We stand on guard for thee. O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow. Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow. How dear to us thy broad domain, From East to Western Sea, Thou land of hope for all who toil! Thou True North, strong and free!
Refrain O Canada! O Canada! etc.
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise, To keep thee steadfast through the years From East to Western Sea, Our own beloved native land! Our True North, strong and free!
Refrain O Canada! O Canada! etc.
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer, Hold our dominion within thy loving care; Help us to find, O God, in thee A lasting, rich reward, As waiting for the Better Day, We ever stand on guard.
I am grateful that common sense has prevailed!!! This brought to mind today something that happened when I was in elementary school...lots of years ago. SOMEONE DECIDED TO CHANGE THE MELODY OF AWAY IN A MANGER!!! Well this messed with my 10 year old head...and still to this day...eons later...I still start to sing this old Christmas Carol in the old tune...and people look at me like I am completely from another planet....just a walk down memory lane!
I loved the Olympics for the simple fact that Canadians broke into impromptu renditions of Oh Canada at the drop of a hat. It was the most wonderful thing I've ever seen and made me truly proud to be a Canadian. Besides, if they changed the words, who'd hand out all the new lyrics at special events.
O Canada!
@newchallenge I've heard many times the Olympics broke even?
And the Olympics rocked. A once in a lifetime experience and I enjoyed it! I love sports and the patriotism and it brings the world together. It shows kids it's good to be active and inspires them to get into sports and some even make it their goal to reach the Olympics. Some people don't care about that stuff but I do.
As for changing the national anthem....NO WAY!!!!!!!!! People have too much time on their hands. There are more important concerns than that. Seems people always want to change things from our past.
I love it at the NHL hockey games across Canada where the whole stadium takes over and sings with pride. It can get pretty loud especially during the playoffs. My heart swells with pride when I hear it.

Many on here & saying it shouldn't change based on our freedoms & our forefathers fighting & dying but that is exactly the point now.. It is now our women.. daughters, sisters, aunts, wives that are dying side by side with our men. I think it would be nice to acknowledge what THEY are doing in honor of our country. They changed the wording when I was in elementary school.. I can't remember what the words were originally but they changed it to the line "From far & wide".. that wasn't it originally.. no one died or had a major crisis because of this. Not the end of the world. In my opinion, it is more the state of tax increases, inflation & low wages (at least in NB) that we should be more concerned. The government is treading on thin ice & are pushing a mass exodus of our up & coming work force. Why stay in an impoverished province or country when they can go elsewhere (USA) & be paid wages 3x or more what they are here... My concern lays in the future of my children & what they will face as a nation.. not in the words to our national anthem.
