It's commonplace in South Africa where a single mother, out of necessity, has to move to a large city in order to obtain employment. Often she will leave her children with her mother to raise, while she works to support them. It's very sad for all concerned but at least the children are taken care of.
Perhaps her basic character hasn't changed, she's just gone a little wild post the separation and will come back to how and what you know her to be...just a though.
You may want to change that to "some women". Never in my life have I treated a taxi driver with anything but utmost respect. Your generalisation about my gender is very unfair.

Last time I was in CT, I saw the little man in the red boiler suit, hobnobbing in a very very upmarket restaurant. So much for him being one of the "people". Pfft!
