Well.. I never claimed that USA is the biggest meat consumer. I said I's on the second place.
Nonetheless USA with 124.11 kg / capita / year (2020) with their 330 millions vs Hong Kong with 137.08 kg / capita with their 7.5 million... what was it that "narked" you? Haven't we already agreed that it's a number game?
If we are going to change our behavior, we are going to compare ourselves with others. And we are going to ask some inconvenient questions.
- Yes, the climate change is real and it affects our planet. But if affects most the poorest parts and what is the reason for the richest parts to change their consumption pattern?
- Meat production is a huge industry. Why the beneficiaries of it would suddenly refuse their profits?
- A monoculture is a new plague and how are you to address that?
If fish and sea food are regarded as animal meat, then no, I’m not ready to give it up. Eggs too. But again, little me wouldn’t make a significant impact either way. It’s numbers. Family planning might be the answer. If it’s not too late, as you said.
Well… looks like we have quite a different perspective on some definitions, so I’ll rest my case.
And I have realised, that I haven’t answer the OP question: I’d have no difficulties to give up on meat, as I prefer fish and sea food. But given over-fishing of the seas, one or another problem will remain.
I also checked meat consumption per country per capita, as you certainly did too, and now I wonder that there is a method to convince the population of the top meat consumers to change their behavior.
Now, after reading this I've got a question (mainly to myself so far). Isn't the main problem, even above inequality, is the fact that human being isn't the part of the ecosystem anymore? And it was so for a good while now, since starting of agriculture or some such.
If you remove some species from any part of the food chain, the other parts will suffer. If you remove a human being from the food chain, the other parts will flourish. Or am I wrong? (It's not my subject and I haven't read much on it, I'm afraid.)
I think the main issue is in one-sided solutions to a complex problem. If tomorrow everybody would decide to give up either meat or fuel, then there will be the very same number of people in the very same situation as now, but without meat and fuel.
Inequality, poverty, illiteracy, cruelty, greed, overpopulation… and so on, will remain. And I’m wondering, whether it’s all the consequence of inequality.
Well... in my eyes it's the best ones: Navalny, Yashin, Kara-Murza, Chanysheva, Skochilenko, Gorinov and 600 more political prisoners. Plus the usual people, who make the single protest despite the fees, they can't afford, and those, who bring flowers to Lesya Ukrainka and the similar statutes to commemorate the victims of that terrible war.
But they are elite for me.
I know, that for everybody else here "elite" means pootler's accomplices. All those thieves who eventually became war criminals.
Well... there's no point to discuss Medvedev, he's no body. Never been.
The Wagner march to Moskva showed that there's no one to defend "pypa". The question is when someone will gather up the guts to repeat the deed. It's obvious that pypa is a burden for the so called "elite".
But until that the paid trolls will collect their silver coins. As well as unpaid, but useful idiots.
Right now, Prigozhin is not in a position to "close" something he was only managing as long as his master wanted him to.
That said, Prigozhin is a milliarder counted in USD. How easy he can access his fortune... I do not know. How safe is he in Belarus... I do not know. A certain thing: if Pootler would want to kill him, it will happen within soon. And they say, that "Pypa", as Prigozhin has called him, is very revengeful creature.
Laughing is good for one's health. Still, not proving anything.
In April of 2022 Pootin added 17 million USD to Russian propaganda. The one, that's promoting his ruling and his war. If you are running his errands for free - then you are stupid.
Well… paddling makes me forget all those matters. They don’t exist when I’m on the water. I think the humans would be better as species, if there were more people paddling.
I have my little thread on the fora for the discussion of the current events and politics. This blog is an escape from all it :)
Well… we don’t have here sharks or stingrays and challenging the danger isn’t really my virtue. As to appreciating small things… I think the biggest misunderstanding among people is what the simplest things are. For us in Gothenburg, Sweden, it’s rain. I’d believe, it isn’t so in Sahara :)
I don’t dive, but once I’s on a boat with glass bottom in the Red sea. It was totally enchanting. We saw dolphins. When they appeared, the crew screamed: “Dolphins!!!” and everybody run on the upper deck, but I remained there I was and I saw them swimming underwater close to the windows: a family of 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a toddler, if you can say so about the dolphins. Such a wonderful memory
I understand that it’s not like diving yourself, but still…
I never thought about it in terms of control. But yes, the feeling of freedom and unity with the surroundings, that makes paddling so delightful for me.
I too drive my car as if I’ve stolen it, but it’s because I try to spend as little time as possible on driving. And sometimes I just simply need to pee :)
Re renewable energy: education is one of the possible ways. But most effective way, unfortunately, are personal costs: the more people pay for energy, the less they will use it. So difference in consumer prices between oil/gas/coal based energy and wind/sun/tide energy would be more effective a tool in directing people's opinion towards the renewables.
Though I personally would prefer a conscious choice, not a forced one.
Driving always feels for me like a stressful activity, more so after a long time without practice. It might depend on that there are other road users and you don’t know what they are going to do next. I can’t relax, when driving.
It’s different when I’m on water: I’m alone and I know what I’m going to do next. And I’m totally relaxed. Perhaps, it’s the main reason I love paddling so much: the feeling of ease and freedom :)
RE: Trump Disquaified
Well... he never won. Not on his own.He didn't even win against Hillary. A dead horse would've won against Hillary, but not him. Jeessuusss.
He couldn't win against half-dead Biden. And now again.
They say Trump, you think cirque.
And yeah, the cirque begun - they accuse 'im in mutiny against whatever. ***laughing***
