bull aside... I'm getting the feeling that the vast majority of people from all walks of life actually DO believe in this absurdity. It's crazy in this day n age...
I'll blog about this issue with the universe at some point. Length arg and sadly it is highly philosophical. One need a good dose of physics to grasp even the most basic of the concepts but we'll see. I don't have high expectations. I know people will rejected it.. which actually sadness me.
Sometimes I feel as if you guys are trivialising the beauty of nature but invoking "intelligent design/creation" - although I am not atheist myself.
I'm too distracted to keep up the conversation at this point. I think that I'm in 'love' at the moment. Any chance you could shed off that little bit of cloth left in the way there? Just a wee thought really..
you said you've seen it work countless times init? How many times have you seen it not work? How did you measure these proportions? The link I posted does exactly these measurements under controlled conditions and they found that astrology is as predictive as pure chance. Nothing more... nada less.
"Tenner, why do you care if people find Astrology useful?"
I care because people are finding it useful due to the fact that it is being presented to them as if it was science. That is rather dishonest and deceitful.
"Astrology is the study of the stars. It is an art and a science (as much as psychology is a science)."
It might be an art .. as much as salesmanship is an art I suppose or conning people say. It certainly is NOT a science and it certainly is NOT a study. Those are very well defined and there are certain criteria which must be met in order for an activity to qualify as such.
"The newspaper horoscopes are scoffed at more by Astrologers than anyone."
Astrologers should scoff astrology in its totality because it simply is false and that has been proven time and time again.
Believe me, I'd love it to be true.. it'd be good to have a warning before a quake init?
"Tell me how you explain the effect the full moon has on bodies of water and on human behavior please."
The effect of the moon on bodies of water is caused by the gravitational pull (warping of space time) which pulls the water out at see. That's what causes the tide. The moon does not effect human behaviour at all. Nor does any other planet in the universe. There might be some people who have some psychological condition and would respond to the moon perhaps but in that case, it is the defect (whether electro-chemical/signaling or otherwise) in their brain which is effecting their behaviour not the moon.
ever owned a lamborghini? A man can indeed form an emotional bond to a car and it can be pretty strong. Sure enough, a car won't be making you sandwiches and bringing you cold beer when you're watching football. In fact, that is why it's important to have both a car and a wife in the kitchen. Simple..
1. I did not addressed you in any way. 2. My comment was light-hearted but it wasn't a joke. 3. You'd regret hunting me because I'd hunt you back. 4. You're getting on my nerves. 5. Get off my back. That's my final warning.

for a woman? It's just not worth it man. Don't even try to rationalise the situation. When a woman is involved, you can't anyway.
If she left, it's great.. you can now go out there and get youself another one. After a while it gets boring anyway. How long can you stand eating macaroni cheese every day?
Indeed, I am in that situation exactly. I'm handsome, rich and essentially god's gift to womankind .. why would I be single (and desperate)? The answer is: I am too spoiled for choice..
