RE: Is talking about our dead members of this blog land a deface in their memory?

For anybody to remember me at all after I pass is remarkable. So many times I've asked the question to myself if I left this earth today would anybody even notice? Would I be missed? What do people think of me? I'm speaking for myself here, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if you resurrected one of my blogs and carried on. In fact, I'd think that everybody was just starting up the party again. laugh Some people really feel alone in this world. For someone to tell me they even thought of me in any such way or form would amaze me.

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

Sidna was a local store owner. You know it had to just kill him to run and leave this home behind. I don't believe anybody else lived in it after him. I remember when I was a young girl and my parent's would bring me up on the mountain every Fall to see the local scenery around here. I was in love with this house even then. Now I live 10 minutes down the road from it. laugh I'm glad to see the local historical society restoring it. I hope to see it as grand as it was back in the day.

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

What is, Pat?laugh

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

Nathan, I did a video myself to go along with this in the vlogs. It's absolutely beautiful there! Sidna Allen only lived in this house for a year before the massacre went down at the local courthouse. He then fled the state and managed to evade the law for another 6 months before getting caught and being sent to prison in Richmond. If you watch the video above you can see the woodwork that he did while in prison and it tells a lot about the making of the house. He was truly talented. I can't wait to see the house restored. purple heart

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

I'm sitting at work talking with one of my trainers the other day about visiting this house. Come to find out her great uncle was kin to the Allen's. Also, funny thing about it was the whole reason the Allen's were in court that day was for running shine back and forth to Cana, a nearby area at the bottom of the mountain. The most interesting stories always seem to stem from someone running shine around here. laugh

RE: wrong impression or what?

She didn't feel the need to explain. laugh

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

I want to go back so bad! blues I want to visit Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon the next time I come. I want to do some major exploring. laugh I was looking for my jump drive with all my pictures on it from Arizona the other night and haven't found it yet. I have some really good pictures on there from my hiking trip in Tonto National Forest and Table Mesa Rd. I loved visiting Arizona.

Nam, you can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway right down from this house. I've known this all along since I moved here and didn't go exploring till now. I love it!!! Next spring I'm jumping on that thing and going all the way to Cherokee, NC.dancing

Went to Rocky Knob the other day.

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

I'm not originally from this area but people are getting to know me. laugh Yeah, 30 minutes from Mt. Airy, NC, approximately. Just continue on highway 52 through Fancy Gap and go down the mountain. Also, Mayberry, home of Andy Griffith Show is there.

RE: LEAVE DONALD ALONE! RIGHT NOW!!

Is it really crying?laugh

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

Did you see the videos? OM Gosh! It's really a breathtaking place even in it's ruins. I can't wait to see it restored. At first I thought they were going to move it but as I started researching it I found out they are actually leaving it where it is and trying to restore to it's original state. And the area and views from the home are awesome! You can see my video with it in the vlogs.

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

Myhome, I think they built this house in 1911. After Sidna Allen got out of prison I don't think he returned there. This house has to be one of the grandest houses during that time, especially for this area.

Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

Nam, this house sticks out in our area. It's the only house like it. I have driven by it so many times and didn't know the story behind who owned it. The historical society in our area is starting to restore the house now. I posted this in the vlogs, too...along with a video I took this morning of what the house looks like right now. I can't wait for them to get done. I want to go inside! It is so beautiful around it.

RE: "UPSIDE DOWN FROWNS"..(3)

That cat rings the saying true, "Curiosity killed the cat." He gets into everything. I don't care how loud it is. Things that would scare most cats don't scare him. laugh

RE: "UPSIDE DOWN FROWNS"..(3)

No upside down frown here, Nam. I'm happy!banana I've been out exploring again today.

RE: LEAVE DONALD ALONE! RIGHT NOW!!

Oh dear.....laugh

RE: Hotel California = Acapella

Love it! head banger

RE: "BLUE MAN BACK"("AND SO AM I")

Things have just slowed down a bit. Give everybody a while and the right mood will hit, then everybody will get back on here playing in the blogs. Just a tad adjustment period. wink I've been enjoying my day driving on the Parkway and seeing the beautiful scenery.

Blackbeard's house

laugh It's all interesting, fun and games as long as I don't live there.

Blackbeard's house

Sure it can, Molly. laugh I bet a lot of those castles over there are haunted, too. They have happy ghost in them. laugh I don't knowdunno That's just the tale of the place. It was a lot of fun to take the tour at night and walk around the town and hear the history. The tour finally ended up at a really interesting graveyard. They told one last story and had everybody leaned in and listening and then they sounded a horn. Everybody about peed their pants. laugh

Blackbeard's house

Cheavy, I find things like that so interesting. Can you imagine living in Blackbeard's home? They say the house is haunted and people have taken a lot of photos of the home and within that have unexplained things in them. When I was there I took a role of film hoping to see something. laugh When I got the pictures back they were just of a beautiful home. laugh The inside is not open to the public. A family was currently living there at the time of my last visit.

Blackbeard's house

I heard Blackbeard was a ruthless man. laugh

RE: Recognise this lady?

I love chicken!yay I like eggs. dancing Don't know if it's going to help me to live any longer. Don't know if I want to live to be that old, either. laugh

RE: Recognise this lady?

Just goes to show that living healthy doesn't always guarantee you'll live longer. My childhood bestfriend's grandmother smoked 2 packs a day, ate about anything she wanted and lived to be 104 years old. She also got out and walked all the time (into everybody's business laugh ) and tended her garden.

Blackbeard's house

Oh, and Blackbeard's old home is privately owned now and has been for a while. I wonder how they feel about people stopping in front of their home to take pictures and give tours all the time? laugh It's actually a very beautiful home. I found it so fascinating how the 3rd story of the homes in this area were solely built as lookout windows.

I would absolutely love to visit the castles in Ireland, Scotland and England, among other places. So rich with history.

Blackbeard's house

That is so neat, Molly. I noticed that the time period was around the same as when Blackbeard's home was built. Very interesting to read about. cheers

My turn!!

DC, I was going to try to tell ya how but every way that I type it, it won't show you what you need to know. I know they have it somewhere on here that tells you how to do it, or at least they used to. I don't know now that they've made these changes. I have to upload my pictures to Photobucket to get the url, though.
