Shine's Historical Adventure for Today

I've been out exploring the area that I live in. I pass by this old house quite a bit but I never knew the history behind it. This house is sooooo different from any of the houses in our area. You can tell at one time that this place was grand. It looks out over beautiful pastures everywhere in the middle of Fancy Gap, Va. I noticed the other day when passing by that they have the house lifted up. The historical society in our area is going to restore it. I was very interested in the history of this house and got online to research it. Come to find out this is J. Sidna Allen's house. He was part of the Carroll County Courthouse Massacre. This is BIG history among the people that are from this area. So, I am posting some links so that you might read up on it....very interesting.

Love Houses That Are Old... And Still Standing
Theyve Witnessed A Lot Of History

"If Only..... They Could Talk"........................................................................detective
Big house, would not want to paint it.uh oh
When I was in Nebraska last year they have some beautiful old homes...I wanted to buy one..
Nam, this house sticks out in our area. It's the only house like it. I have driven by it so many times and didn't know the story behind who owned it. The historical society in our area is starting to restore the house now. I posted this in the vlogs, too...along with a video I took this morning of what the house looks like right now. I can't wait for them to get done. I want to go inside! It is so beautiful around it.
Myhome, I think they built this house in 1911. After Sidna Allen got out of prison I don't think he returned there. This house has to be one of the grandest houses during that time, especially for this area.
Shine,I love it!!
Did you see the videos? OM Gosh! It's really a breathtaking place even in it's ruins. I can't wait to see it restored. At first I thought they were going to move it but as I started researching it I found out they are actually leaving it where it is and trying to restore to it's original state. And the area and views from the home are awesome! You can see my video with it in the vlogs.
Shine I will go and watch it..

Shine,yes I know the area well....Love it!!!
I want to go back so bad! blues I want to visit Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon the next time I come. I want to do some major exploring. laugh I was looking for my jump drive with all my pictures on it from Arizona the other night and haven't found it yet. I have some really good pictures on there from my hiking trip in Tonto National Forest and Table Mesa Rd. I loved visiting Arizona.
Shine,There is a lot to see here..We do have some beautiful country...
I'm sitting at work talking with one of my trainers the other day about visiting this house. Come to find out her great uncle was kin to the Allen's. Also, funny thing about it was the whole reason the Allen's were in court that day was for running shine back and forth to Cana, a nearby area at the bottom of the mountain. The most interesting stories always seem to stem from someone running shine around here. laugh
I'm in love! smitten That house and view is to die for!
Nathan, I did a video myself to go along with this in the vlogs. It's absolutely beautiful there! Sidna Allen only lived in this house for a year before the massacre went down at the local courthouse. He then fled the state and managed to evade the law for another 6 months before getting caught and being sent to prison in Richmond. If you watch the video above you can see the woodwork that he did while in prison and it tells a lot about the making of the house. He was truly talented. I can't wait to see the house restored. purple heart
Thats insane.
What is, Pat?laugh
The whole story Shine. Its an insane house, an insane story.
Sidna was a local store owner. You know it had to just kill him to run and leave this home behind. I don't believe anybody else lived in it after him. I remember when I was a young girl and my parent's would bring me up on the mountain every Fall to see the local scenery around here. I was in love with this house even then. Now I live 10 minutes down the road from it. laugh I'm glad to see the local historical society restoring it. I hope to see it as grand as it was back in the day.
Shine you are a girl after my own heart, history old buildings. Touch the stone and they resonate with memories.

your pictures are just out of this world ------I AM ON THE MOVE AGAIN laugh laugh

I could not explore the forests and the mountains so keep your wonderful pics coming.

I have not taken any good ones yet as it has been raining since I actually moved in, but cooked malt bread, and a cauliflower cheese, some of which I froze in little tureens. It was lovely. mmmmmm
