Went hiking on the Appalachian Trail to the second highest peak in Virginia. This is on Whitetop Mountain.

What kind of snake? Hognose?

Hey Mic! Mount Rogers is 5, 578 ft and Whitetop is 5,528 ft.
Not sure what kind of snake. I think its a garter snake.
Is that soil erosion in the first picture? confused

I'm waiting for some picture to load.
Most snakes won't bother you unless you stand on it. But it's scary all the same. shock
I don't think so. The path you see is the trail. Whole lot of what looks like straw on the bald.
We are still in early Spring here. In about another month it will be green.
Vierkaesehoch, I hike different sections of it all the time. I could stay busy just hiking the AT and no other trails.
