True. I suspect that the pony loved all the attention it got before becoming bush meat. Who knows? Very possible I say. roll eyes

RE: Ever been 'Ghosted'?

Happens to me a lot with american women when they realise that when I said 7, I was talking cm not inches. They certainly tend to have unrealistic expectations. dunno

RE: Cheerleaders ate my Pony

To me, you women on here sound like a bunch of desperate housewives trying to interpret the modern art your husbands left for you to find in the form of skid marks on the backside of their underpants while doing the laundry.

I suppose people might call that art or perhaps even skill. If you ask me, skill and art is this:

That is of course, Diego Armando Maradona - the best play the world has ever seen and will ever see. Second only to Jesus Christ himself. The point I was trying to make is that a man don't need to be effeminate to be an skilled artist. Alas, I suppose you're right. I'm fighting a lost battle. To each his own.

RE: Anything Goes

It's funny; however, I must highlight that men dancing ballet is a colossal f@gg3ry.

RE: Cheerleaders ate my Pony

Can anyone think of a comment to post on a blog such as this which is not totally about anything but the blog itself?

RE: Who are you ?

You are what you think you are and you are what you claim to be to everyone else. The question is therefore ill-posed.

RE: Naive traveller

I speak only one language fluently and that language probably is the least used and hence useful in the world. Only some 400,000 people worldwide use it. For that reason, I had to try to learn others but I've always been poor at languages and communication in general. Anyway, I can do some English and Italian. Based on that, in my view, Italian is the coolest language on the planet. It's just plain awesome if you want to curse at someone. Extremely satisfying! It's also rather close to Latin so it makes for a good starting point for probably all other European languages.

Do you speak hakka? Do you know what "gueizai" or "guaizai" or "gwelzai" is by any chance? Can't find it on Google.

RE: global warming...what do you think?

Very interesting and rather smart question you are asking there John. Indeed, evolution claims that all life on planet earth originated from simple single-cell life forms. The emergence of the mentioned simple life forms is rather mysterious as we are yet unable to replicate that in the lab; however, there are several theories which are wayyy more plausible than a God. This implies that we need to investigate such theories before resorting to a rather unsatisfying and unlikely answer such as that provided by creationists. I'm sure that we'll both agree on that wee bit there.

One such theory is known as the primordial soup theory. That's a funny name alright but the theory is a beauty as you'll see. According to this theory, mixtures of organic compounds (that's where the term "soup" comes from) naturally found in abundance on the planet combined under the primordial earth's conditions (temperature, pressure, reduced atmosphere etc) to spontaneously give rise to simple and later more complex proteins which could interact with themselves and the environment through probably simple chemical reactions. Through further evolution and spontaneous change, these turned into cells which constitute the building blocks of all complex life forms we see around us today including ourselves. Once life was at that point, all it takes is essentially to bunch slightly different cells together to create for instance you/me or a rhino or a fish..

Note that the mathematical laws of probability allow for such an thing to occur spontaneously so we know for a fact that indeed, such a thing can happen by itself! Also, please note that I've skimmed over a lot of the details. Furthermore, I am not a biologist so I would probably be unable to answer more technically challenging questions in this regard. The gist of the theory however is there and the message is: explaining the origin of life on earth doesn't necessarily require the existence of a God.

Indeed, evolution is driven by the fundamental laws of physics which are universal although not "multiversal" meaning that they could be different in some other universe. Sadly, that is not something we will ever be able to experimentally verify but theory suggests that that might be the case. As you said, the laws of physics describe the various ways in which the various forms of energy we see around us interact with each other and with themselves. Here's the thing. The laws of physics are not created! They are cast at the instant of the big bang just like one would cast a die. Imagine throwing a die and you get a 6. Have you created a 6? Nope. Out of a set of 6 possible outcomes (numbers 1 to 6) which were all already there, you picked one and it turned out to be a 6. As far as our beloved laws of physics go, there is an infinite number of possible laws of physics. We just happened to get ours as we know them and they've shaped life on earth as we known it.

The existence of these laws which as we've already agreed describe the way energy interacts does entail the existence of energy in the first place though. The ultimate question, therefore, would be: where did energy come from? I suspect that if I had to tell you that energy came from something, you would then ask me where that something came from but as it turns out, energy came from nothing! How can something came from nothing? Well, imagine digging a hole on a beach. You've dug a hole but right next to it, you've built a wee mound! What am saying is that you can see and experience energy locally in the universe but if you had to sum up all the energy in the universe you would end up with a total of exactly zero! That means that indeed, nothing came from nothing and although we can experience energy every day and we're made of it ourselves, there in fact is no energy in our universe. In conclusion, taking the universe as a whole, there is nothing in the universe and nothing has ever been created despite the fact that we are here ourselves!

RE: global warming...what do you think?

I have questioned evolution Johnny mate and before me, other people have been questioning it for ~200 years. I have seen the evidence these giants (ex Charles Darwin PBUH) have collected and I have tried it experimentally myself in the lab on fruit flies and simulated it on a computer. The outcome is an undeniable, loud and resounding: "Yes, it is beyond any conceivable doubt that indeed, evolution is how things really work."

I can understand though that some people are "trained" to look at things differently and will never accept evolution no matter how much evidence one provides... but is alright. I mean .. it's sad but it's their choice. Their business.

I suspect that you are very right there but I sure hope you're wrong...

What you are talking about is a period in the history of the earth where much of life we know of today and upon which we humans depend did not exist and it did not exist precisely because of the CO2 levels that you are talking about and the lack of free O2 upon which the vast majority of life forms depend both on land and in the seas. Simplistically speaking, bacteria in the sea eventually consumed the C in the abundant CO2 thus liberation O2 which both reduced the temperature of the planet and made life as we know it possible.

What we are doing nowadays by burning fossil fuel (plus other things such as deforestation) is to reverse the process. Burning organic compounds (petrol for instance) creates water and CO2 by joining O2 from the atmosphere (primarily) to the carbon in fossil fuels. We're essentially reverting the planet back to it's precambrian state where the temperatures soared a massive 7oC higher than today on average (that's devastating for most modern life forms) and the planet was essentially inhospitable to humans.

RE: Signs and symptoms of depression...

Loneliness can probably lead to depression. Having been social animals for the last 10 million years (prolly even more), we just need human-human interaction, sadly. Myself, I'm getting an inflatable doll with molly's semblance. Kidding aside, probably she'd complain even about that. dunno

RE: Dating at 50

Indeed the older I get, the tougher it gets. Back in my day, all it took was a car and a few dozen bottles of beer. Nowadays, they expect a villa with at least a pool. One thing I've noticed though. Why would a woman like you limit herself to men over 50? Lower that to 30 and you might find something. A bit like John 21:6.

Duro, mate, they're more likely to drive a car on you while you're celebrating hogmanay in the midst of a crowd not to mention the fact that the chance of being hit accidentally by a car while crossing the road is probably 100 times greater. What do you do? Never cross the road? dunno
