the only other men ever to get two were medics . Book about him ,"Mark of the Lion " is a good read . A constant thread that runs through it that he thinks he was not brave . He claims that he did things after seeing that the risks were low . Others didn't see it that way including his boss who kept him out of a battle because he thought Upham had what we now know as a death wish .

nah died in '82 , he would have never seen it as brave , they had no choice .Thousands had the same experience . I was lucky to have lived and worked with men just like my Father , I had any number of teachers that had severed as well . All gone now . NZ is much the less for it .

Errrr pull up a bit . A little feeling a deja vu , I would liked to have done a bit of what my brother and my father have done . But more so would liked both to have done or been able to have done what I have . For my brother to have raised a family (he's called dry balls around here)and for my father I wish he had never had to spend time in the POW camps in Europe and the crap that went on in the last months of the war . real kiwis have along beak , know for putting it in possum traps and needing to reborn . They have a habit of putting their beak where they shouldn't , just like some people .

the one's that have not put their beak in a possum trap have a real sticky beak . So I am told , I have never seen a real one yet but have heard them calling in the bush at night .

jezzzzzzzzz it never stops amazing me how close our countries aren't . I had a contracter this morning here for the next round of possum control .Costs us big money each year . If Aus ever gets low on them you guys can have all yours back .

I never saw the pics of that house but the local QE11 rep and a guy from the regional council sure did ,as we were stomping through my scrub they were talking about it and what could be done . Upshot was replace the trees with less volatile ones . All legal sort off if done slowly . Tree they said would work , Karaka tree . Very fitting name ,however they don't burn .

This has to stop , having people chased out of their houses to watch them burn . If it is legal to build in these areas it must be made legal to clear vegetation with a margin wide enough to protect the housing .Its all very well to have a house in it's own little forest . I enjoy just that . I feel for these people losing their homes but I could kick them for not getting together to make their places safe . It would not be easy , but having said that nothing important ever is .

Did you miss the rebuilding bit Ray as our trade routes to the US all went through Afghanistan we needed to have an army team up there building schools , bridges and the like so the nutters have something fresh to blow up when all the western countries pull out .
