RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

--------------------------------^-----------------------------

Women should not be conflicted, Velvet. :-)

But let me show you how this should work. VS how the bailout did work. You'll see the difference real quick on the educational issue.

President Obama just gave the battery and fuel cell industry $2.4b to develop advanced fuel cell and batteries for cars and trucks.
Of that $2.4b about $300m went to Universities and College for advanced educational work (mostly engineering and science) in the field. So there was a educational element to the grants. Also in time ...a real group of new products that benefit society will emerge from the grants.

Now compare this to the bailouts. No money for education, no money for new product development. Money simply to support failing companies and existing products that were having difficulties in the market place.

One is progress and advancement ...the other is not.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

I recieved this from my sis-in-law yesterday.I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this?Sen. Cornyn Sends Letter To President Obama About "Fishy" Activities Program
Sends letter to President Obama expressing grave concern over new White House program to monitor speech of American citizens’ with opposing political viewsWednesday, August 5, 2009In a letter to President Obama, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, expressed serious concern about the White House's new program requesting Americans to forward email chains and other communications opposing the President's health care policies. Sen. Cornyn is seeking assurances that the program is being carried out in a manner consistent with the First Amendment and America's tradition of free speech and public discourse.
Sen. Cornyn's letter also inquires about the collection of names, email addresses, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens that will be reported, which raises the specter of a data collection program.

"I am not aware of any precedent for a President asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed ‘fishy' or otherwise inimical to the White House's political interests," Sen. Cornyn wrote. "You should not be surprised that these actions taken by your White House staff raise the specter of a data collection program. As Congress debates health care reform and other critical policy matters, citizen engagement must not be chilled by fear of government monitoring the exercise of free speech rights."

--The full text of Sen. Cornyn's letter is below--

Dear President Obama,

I write to express my concern about a new White House program to monitor American citizens' speech opposing your health care policies, and to seek your assurances that this program is being carried out in a manner consistent with the First Amendment and America's tradition of free speech and public discourse.

Yesterday, in an official White House release entitled "Facts are Stubborn Things," the White House Director of New Media, Macon Phillips, asserted that there was "a lot of disinformation out there," and encouraged citizens to report "fishy" speech opposing your health care policies to the White House. Phillips specifically targeted private, unpublished, even casual speech, writing that "rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation." Phillips wrote "If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."
-------------------------------^------------------------------

I saw some media on this. Basically the White House has a Health Care Public Office that is 'tracking' the public debate that is on going about the legislation.

So if say, the Tea Party members use the net to circulate a petition or some info on it. Or to organize people to attend a town hall. Any material that DEMs or Obama supporters find on the net.....can be sent to the White House.

The question is what becomes of it? Is it investigated? Or used for some black list? or is the list of parties circulated to the Black Panthers and ACORN for political repreisals?

Ok I am joking some. Yes, it has the potential to be a violation of 1st Admendment rigths....assuming the White House acts to supress the parties speech.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Come on John, you know the Presdient Obama has far surpassed Ron Reagon in deficit spending. Reagon had the Chinese, the Warsaw Pact and the Soviet Union to engage both militarily and geo politically. And he did a pretty good job in both containing them and even breaking two of them.

What does President Obama face on the international scene is like that? Iraq? Iran? NKorea? AlQeada? The Taliban? Iraq has cooled. Iran is self emploding. NKorea is happy with a pic session with Clinton. Pakistan is fighting his war with the Taliban. So all he really has on the international scene is AlQeada.

Yet when they (Congress) gave him the the military funding supplement...they gave him 18.5b per month. President Obama and DEMs were complaining because GWB got 10b a month.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

confused Republicans come in all varieties...but two of the biggest varieties are small business owners and owners of major corporations (large stocks holders). The small business sector in the US, is the single biggest employer in the country. And major corporations are another major employer.

But Trealach is right....is not the role of the President to create employment.....so why is this DEM President saying or trying or telling....that his TARP II would create 4 million jobs? Unemployment continues to increase...though slowed....most cnsider it will soon hit 10%. President Obama said it would halt at 8%.
He is now saying that 500,000 job have been created by TARP II.

Interesting how does one create 500,000 jobs, when one only has spent 6% of the TARP II funds? Someone is fibbing, Trealach...just who do you think that is???

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

I will give you another example of broken and twisted Washington, Des. This time directly to the health care debate.

The Senate version of the Health Care bill is coming from Senator Kennedy's desk. Sen. Kennedy, as we all know, has terminal brain cancer. But he also has a very good small group policy that was written by Congress for Congressmen and their families.

Now none has asked the good Senator, if he would trade his present gov't health care plan for this new National Health care plan for the American people. But they are asking that question to the
DEM leaders in these town hall meetings.

Yep, the town hallers are asking them if they would trade that special preferred planned that they drafted and legislated specifically for themselves several years ago......for this all covering plan that all Americans can have.

Guess what the answer is??

Well we have a small group plan that is fine for Congress and that is being drafted into the legislation, that you can keep your existing health care.

So in other words, the DEMs leaders in Congress....drafted a health care plan....that they would not participate in, but it is good enough for the old American people. Talk about being elitist and egotistical! Here this good enough for you, but we will keep our prefer status as Congressmen and Senators. Were we can walk into Walter Reed show a little gov't health care card....and go to the front of the line over wounded veterans and get treatment.

I am sorry Des, I go to the emergency room or a Doctor office....I sit and wait in line for treatment. I don't get preferred treatment. Nor will these 40 million uninsured Americans that this National Health care plan covers. They will wait in line as well.

But our good old Senate/Congress led by DEMs will have prefferred treatment. The reason, I am pointing this at the DEMs? Even thought REP were part of writing the original government health care plan. Today, it is the DEMs that are writing this legislation and cannot or will not include themselves in it.

And it is President Obama....and his White House....that handed health care legislation drafting to Polosi and Reid to push thru.
He is taken a hands off in the drafting of this....because he knows it is politically explosive. If it explodes, our good President will only get some shell frags, and not be badly injured. Oh he has used the bully publit to push it....and done his share of demonizing the opposition for small smile and giggles. But if it goes bad....it is on Reid and Polosi and DEM Congress.

I would like to see someone ask Senator Kennedy this question. If he would trade his present health care for the one that his aid and DEM leaders are pushing. I doubt anyone will. But those DEM Senator and REP need to find a better answer.

I could buy into health care coverage for 40 million that don't have it. If it was quality package. But this refusal to change over the leaderships plan to it, is telling me that it not a quality package.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Des, you want to know how broken Washington is?

:-)When Bill Clinton went to NKorea to get the two reporters out of the country, he did not use a FEDERAL Government jet. Though the
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has over a 1000 corporate jets and just bought 8 more. No, former President Clinton, who was on government business and government for this, used a supporter and donator private aircraft.

Why is that?

Because the President Obama administration was so concerned about the public opinion of the back door talks that had emerged over this with the NKoreans...they did not want it to appear that this was a US Government sponsored mission... Or... they simply did not want former President Clinton (husband of Sect. Clinton) to be seen in a FEDERAL Government Jet with that big old American Flag near the doorway....and all those pics that would have been taken with a Clinton standing in the doorway (with two Asian American women coming out of a NKorean prison) of a American flagged aircraft in NKorea doing a humanitarian mission..Or...those budget problem they got are so big that they did not have the funds for this trip.

Maybe all of them, yes?

DES, Washington is that broken and twisted........but President Obama to keep status quo and his agenda going.....needs to have
the focus on main street America. That is why Heath care is being pushed so hard today.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Des, we would just like to have someone running it. Even President Obama now is saying...."I inherited a mess and I don't mind cleaning up". Well then do it. Reform the system and fix that broken Washington.(Reminding me alot of McCain's reform position there).

But OH NO. The problem is out there grass land America. Where those private insurance companies are. Were the that gun tottin, bible thumbin American is. Were that elderly person with limited and set income is. Where that Dr. who has give his adult working life to the medical treatment of his community is.

See what Obama has done with nationalized health care...is to focus the ills of the country on main street America....not those failing banks, those money grapping mega insurance companies, not those seedy backroom dealing Washington policitians. But good old main street America is what he feels is broken.

But Des, during the election.....good main old street
America......was were was then Senator Obama was eating pies, and buying lunches, and having beers, and kissing babies. Because he needed good old America votes.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Come on Jvanski, we are not bashing President Obama.....just tickling his feet some. The real bashing is going on at the
town halls.....where the DEMs leaders that support him are folding
like a house of cards in their aurguements on health care.

Have you listen to some of their replies to legit questions from the town hallers, Jvanski? I watch a man whose disabled son was in a wheelchair sitting in front of him....ask one of them.....why they were going to take his son's medical insurance programs away.

When the DEM said OH NO that is not going to happen. The father
pointed out just how private insurance companies could not compete with a gov't insurance plan. The DEM then did not say a word.

Jvanaski....you build houses, like the idea of gov't setting up a construction firm in your town? One that has buying power and marketing advantage over you? Can offer lower prices AND regulate
the where houses and when houses are built? Or would you consider that a UNFAIR government activity that likely would dramatically alter your business and your income? Think that pretty soon, you would be out of the house building business

I don't hear whining and whimpering Jvanski.....but a lot of angry people.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Well then you know that for the US.....we don't normally have these drag out, take no prisoners, political issues/debates. Unlike the British Parlimentary system....where they sit in the opposed to each other....often yelling at the other side.....we sit side by side across a aisleway.

But it goes even deeper than that.

The Constitution was written to negate strong heated debate. Sure the bill of rights and declaration of independence are all strongly worded documents. But the Constitution was the formal document of 'how' the government was to be run and conducted.

Where today do we see men of such stature as the framers of the Constitution? Many had hoped that President Obama was such a man.
Maybe he can be. But so far.........

The framers, like Jefferson and Adams, could agree to disagree and still accomplish the difficult task of goverance and ligislation. Presently Pres. Obama has flamed the health care debate rather than calming it. Yesterday, he talked of the mess he inherited for a giggle at a DEM breakfast. Four weeks earlier, he said that the economy was now his...when asked.

So what is it? A giggle and ideology politics for DEMs because they are in power. Or do they really care about the country and its people. Because those town hallers.....they are Americans of all parties and a cross section of ind, conservative and liberal. The DEMs are in the process of isolating themselves from the country on this issue. JMO

The more I have watched the DEM process of goverace the last 6 months.....it is a giggle and ideology politics that most are playing.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Kissmedeeply, VelvetUG and other not of the US (to be politically correct):-)

I don't mind your opinions and comments on American politics, government or life.....if they are honest and straight forward.

Just realize our system of government is very different that a
parlimentary system. Though you cannot see it much....we normally don't have opposition parties and in power parties. In power parties here mean control of both the Executive and both sides Congress.
We normally have a minority and majority parties. Minority party can have control one of the House, Senate or Presidency. That gives it a great deal of say in the government process.

But we do have opposition and in power parties today. So our normal mild political debate has turned harder and more vile of recent.

In the past many people have asked many times....why don't American stand up? It is largely this minority and majority thingee...that kept the debate mild. That gone.....look for a hot political summer here.

DEMs have been demonizing the town hallers...which in my opinion is reproachable. No American should demonize another. And the town hallers have been doing shout outs....which again in my opinion is reproachable. Little is gained in shout out but media exposure.
Both show a disrespect for the system, the country and its people.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

One of Huckabee's guests just said the Health Care is going to go like this.

They (the DEMs) will pass a bill with very little discussion or reading. Remember teh second TARP bill...no discussion or reading.
Then they will let the Washington Beuarcacy put the details to it.
Meaning those CSARs....unelected and largely unknown.....will be the ones that really are determining what this Federal Health Care plan is.

Also on senior citizens health care. Huckabee has a senior health care expert on.....says that seniors should not be scared of Obama care....the crowd groaned....but says that seniors require the most of the health care. That greying of American will cause even more.

Says the problem is the way DR are paid. That Dr are paid by the procedures they write. The more procedures the more they are paid.
That Obamacare is only going force them to order more procedures to make up for the decrease in the rates.

He says that Obamacare is not health care rationing. But that we have two many wrong procedures being ordered by the Drs.

I agree with most of that.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Huckabee is tlaking about the Health care program now.

The Senate version and the House version are different. The Seante will make the States responsible for 10% after the first year. There is not guarantee that this will not be increased. Usually it is.
Most states are just holding their own budget wise. And a few like California are already bankrupt.

The concern is that the Senate version of the Health care will bankrupt many of the states.

Now the House version, does not have a State sharing.

But this Senate DEM leadership is bascially forcing the States to participate in a National Health care program....that they had little or no say in. Remember the old saying "no taxation without representation'. Heck we fought a Civil War over this thing (State Rights) one time. But this is how much the DEMs are over stepping their Constitutional boundaries today.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

Southtc, you and me think way to much a like......laugh

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

The Senate ethnic committee just gave Dodd a OK on his loan with Countrywide. Said he 'needed to be more observant to making impropertaries " but did not violate a ethnic violation by getting a preferred rate loan from Countrywide.

I would like a loan like he got.....beats the present 15 and 30 year rates by about 2-3 interest points.......

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

We have two theories here in the US to the reason the economy failed.

The sub prime is one. The other is that the DEM lead committee Lead by REP Franks......caused devaluation of the properties with new appraisal regulation early in 2008. Most banks have most of their assets in mortage notes. Franks committee forced them to devalue property values in April of the year.

Frank in a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in his Boston district in mid summer....spoke of a banking crisis. No banks failed till fall of the year. Franks either predicted or knew the worst banking crisis since the great depression was coming. Tkae your choice there....I like the latter.

RE: Is Obama doing a good job?

John, you want a few things that would have been done differently under a McCain administration?

Loans to the failing companies vs bailouts. McCain first supported loans to them. Then changed his mind to support the first TARP.
The second TARP would of either would not have happened or would have been loans.

As of a couple weeks ago,President Obama has only spent 6% of that second TARP. Can you explain that to us? I have my logic to it....that he has to hold it....as collatrol for the Chinese T-Bills. In other words, if I am right...he is using TARP II not for the US economy, but for the Chinese economy/government/people.
Like the tought?

Read the bill John. TARP II was for the American economy and people. So why is not more than 6% of it being spent? I have yet to hear a DEM or DEM leader with a good explanation to this. But would really like to read/hear one.

Let us move on.

Afghanistan. McCain would have recognized the military opportunity present by the Pakistan and Taliban conflict. He would have sent troop into Pakistan to search for bin Laden and other leaders of the AlQeada and Taliban. The US is giving Paksitan billions in military and economic aid.....yet President Obama cannot or will not step across a border to search for bin Laden.

Let us move on.

Energy and Off shore oil. President Obama just spent 2.4 billion dollar for fuel cell and batteries. McCain offered a $300m one time grant to best fuel cell technology. Here is the deal, John....now we have about 6 different lithium-ion batteries for auto being developed....one for each of the auto companies and several other for trucks. Energy is energy. A single advanced fuel cell could do it all. Like spending 2.1 billion for duplication technologies? That is lot of beans, John....could have gone elsewhere.

By the way. The lead time for getting those lithium-ion battery plants up and running? They have not even been built. Remember the DEM arguement on off shore oil lead time? Same applies here.
We since we both in our 50s, will not see this country free from OPEC oil in our life time. Like the thought?

Health Care. John, please find me the section in the Constitution that says the Federal government is responsible for Health Care of the people of the country. We both know, it ain't there. President Obama and the DEM are stepping across their Constitutional boundaries with this trillion dollar nationalization plan...by miles.

But hey it is votes.

RE: The Liberals Have Won.... Your First Amandment is Lost

Those DEMs leaders....they do know how to live. They deep fried the car executives for coming to DC for the auto bailouts in corporate jets. Then they just approved a purchase of $500m dollar worth of corporate jets for legislative use (both parties).

The Air Force asked for 4.....the DEMs give them 8!

Now we are not talking some 8 small passenger jet.....but modified B-737 that seat 46 and Guldstream 5s that seat nearly 20. Nancy Polosi wants to take her entourage from DC to San Franisco in style!
They do work so hard for the American public.....

These aircraft have the range to go globe trotting.....hey a little trip for staff and supporters...to Paris, or Hong Kong, or Rio...
call the Air Force and get a reservation for a new B-737!!

But those failing car company executive....imagine coming to DC in corporate jets as they ran companies that were losing money!! Hey what is a gov't that is trillion in deficit spending??? A Success???

These DEM leaders reamed the auto exec over thier use of company aircraft that had been long in their companies ownership and paid off. It made of great media. So should this little benefit purchase for the leader of Congress.

RE: Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun?

I think that I have the solution.......for this anti gun/pro gun debate....

as I was reading the posts here.....I noticed net ad for Airsoft paint ball guns and ammo.

Maybe if we got everyone to think 'soft ammo' vs 'hard ammo'.......

agreed getting the bear to lay still after being shot with soft ammo while one tries to skin it might be a little hard to do.... and protecting your home during a armed home invasion with soft ammo could be a little dicey....and for the police answering a bank robbery with clocks loaded with pellets might not intimidate a robber very well.....

But look at the positive side for the anti gun people. They can say that they were able to bring about 'change' for the American gun owner....by changing them to soft ammo. After facing that still still kicking bear, home intruder, or armed robber....there will be a lot fewer American gun owners.

laugh

RE: House stolen said "Obama money"

Do a BBB (Better Business Buera) check on all the companies and aprties. A mortgage company would file a BBB as a matter of doing business. If it is not listed in your state or cities BBB membership or has a number of filed claims against it for bad business practices....I would guess it is a scam.

Take the BBB report (they are free) to your local prosecutor office and ask for a investigation into a white collar crime.

RE: Joe Biden... "Oopse I did it Again"... He opened his mouth!

Maybe it is just me......

But Jumbin Joe goes to the Ukraine and then to Georgia. Geargia asks Joe for $16m dollar's worth of military weapons. Jumbin Joe does a
song and dance (meaning does not commit to giving Georgia the aid).

Next we have Russian subs off the east coast of the United States and
Russian talking about Georgian intrusions into the Russian areas of
Georgia.

The Russian subs have always been but coming to the surface like they did.....was just to remind us that they were there. And claiming intrusion by the Georgians is not necessarily a new thing.

But the timing of it all to Jumbin Joe and the $16m request for arms
by the Georgians.......is surprise. It ain't Jumbin Joe that the Ruskies have to worry about. He is only VP.

RE: Do Politicians Lie?

I have been watching the media reports on Sen. Specter and HHS Sectre Sibelious town hall meetings on health care. Large turn out of very disgruntled voters of all ages and of all parties. So disgruntled that both the Senator and Sectretary were nearly "shouted out".

The Obama administration and other DEMs quickly claims that these are astro turf meeting and loaded with REP and Tea Party members. That the Senator and Sect were ambushed. Maybe once.....but this happened now several times in different cities.

There has been talk in right radio talks shows of playing the politics like the far left liberals played it last year in the
Presidential election....when at college campuses 'shout outs' happened when conservative canidates showed.

Both were loudly booed and the Sect. Sebilous was called a bold face liar. So for the USA, this is pretty intense stuff.

The fustration of disgruntled voters makes for great media. They come to these town halls to be heard by thier elected representive....but....if one voter (or small groups of voters) steals the entire meeting with a serise of prolonged out burst and
demeaning comments.....then the several 1000 attending lose both their chance to speak and to convey a message to the officlas.

There is a second message in Norman Rockwell's great painting "The Four Freedoms". That is seen in the faces of those attending...some were angered, disturbed and even frightened by what was being spoken by the young man. But all were quiet, respectful, and listening to the debate.

Do I like the health care program of the DEMs and President Obama? No. But if I decided to attend a town hall meeting on a debate of it, I would not 'shout out' the parties present. If I decided to speak at the meeting with a question or a comment....it would be with thought and direction.....I can slice and dice with the best of them. But I don't need to demean a elected or appointed official for some media. I go to such a meeting to learn as much as speak (complain), the only way that occurs is with listening.

RE: Did anyone honestly think that someone besides Obama would win?

Just a side question.

If Obama's polls continue to fall as they have in the first 6 months......down 16 points since taking office.......by my math....
he would be a negative 107 point in the hole, when his term ends.

If so, can we use the same logic (GWB/McCain) that Obama has spoiled any Democratic canidate chance for a win in 2012?

But there the Democratic will fight....and say.....he sold 250,000 cars in the cash for clunkers program (read that a chicken in everyone's pot program).

He got us out of Iraq (the Iraq withdrawal were already occurring when he took office and the security agreement were already in place).

He kept us in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban and seeking bin Laden (where is that bin Laden). Also by my calculation, by the time his administration ends, at the rate of casualities in Afghanistan NATO and US forces will have sustained over 3000 casualties in a country that is smaller than Iraq, where we sustained 4200 casualities in GBW 6 years there.

He kept the economy going during that crisis time of 2008-9 (and the unemployment figures at 10% and the mortage foreclosures of 1 in 10 homes).

He made a big government and did a National Health care program (anyone seen the recent FED Tax revenue down 23% and still think he will keep his promise of no taxing of the middle class to pay for this big government will hold?).

But he got foreign investment into the country(yes and the Chinese got some cherry US corporations (Hummer) and slue of other agreements).

And he did reconcil us with the Moslem world by apologizing to them for GITMO, Iraq, and Afghanistan (funny I never heard any apology from the Moslem world after 9/11).

And he did contain that NKorean vessel from making a run to Mynmar (that might have been carrying nothing more than machine parts because we never stopped it to inspect it).

And he did get a dialogue with Iran going (though most consider the Iranian election a sham and he is talking with an illegal government).

And he did start negotiate with Russia on de nucing (Russia ain't the only with nucs, those Chinese that today are our buddies have a few as well). They ain't in the disarmament agreement.

He did get NASA squared away. (We will reach the moon by 2028 is the most recent projection of a NASA committee). China will be there by 2015 and a Russian and Europe joint venture for a Mars
trip in eary 2020 is being planned.

So? Is this a successful American Administration, CS DEMs?

RE: Should we just give all the nuclear powers the green light to just go agead and nuke the planet?

I was going to ask you if it was your vote, Zee.... glad to see you are still with the walkin talkin and breathin.....

RE: Should we just give all the nuclear powers the green light to just go agead and nuke the planet?

Let us look at the positive side of it, Zee. We give them the green light.......and they have sold their footballs (devices with the nuc codes)...to pay their countries debts.:-)

Or they say to themselves....gesh people want to end it while I'm a leader of a nuclear power government (e.g. Am I doing that badly as a leader???) They either join the Hari Krishnas, the Tea Party, or
some other cult like group.

Or we give them the green light......and when they begin to put the code into the computer.....the computers (now with artificial intelligence) kick out the message.....are you crazy?? I don't want to broken into s zillion little non functioning pieces.

Or we give them the green light......and they get into a massive debate as to who started it and who history will blame...non wanting it to effect their legacy.....that they all will de nuc.

Of course then......out of the wood work come one nut case (pick your nut case of the many nuts cases).....that says......I will hold one nuc aside just for old time sake.:-)

RE: Tim Tebow is awesomness!!!

Pretty good reason to stay in College football if you ask me. I do agree ZEE!!

But come on now......Michigan State???

GO BIG BLUE!!

RE: New Home Sales

Zee...I think that they have gone full circle.....they ran to the left so far they came back to the right......LOL

RE: New Home Sales

Obama has gone alright. Gone to the taxpayer one to many times.:-)

How is that health care coming along? The DEMs are now saying that they need REP congressional votes to make it happen! You better be nice to us REP, Jvanski.....or else we will tell them vote their conscience.:-)

Getting all those wealthy, more than $250K per year, REP that will be taxed more, all those Bible toten and gun carrying REP that could care less after be called those names last fall, all those REP small business men that cannot meet payroll or get SBA loans....to support Obama's health care.....to send their REP congressman a 'go ahead message' on the health care vote......is going to be some trick.

Maybe the liberal media can just scratch out the 54 million McCain voters.......and Obama can tie up the Congressional phone lines with liberal DEMs using GWB's phone taps.....
