"Have any of you ever radically changed the way you live your life?"
Yes, I moved from a double-storey house with swimming pool and double garage in South Africa, to a one-roomed loft in Zürich, and knew no-one in town. I have now moved from a 2 bedroomed flat in Zürich to a flat in Malta, and I know no-one here either...hahahah....it's quite funny actually. Maybe I have gypsy blood in me??...
I watched CNN last night....jeez, they keep playing the same crap over and over again....war, sick economy, bloody US politics.....same storyline, same crappy plot.....when are they gonna come up with something original and entertaining dammit??!!....
Oh Smokey...what a good idea!!.....just because we're the old furniture decorating the place, we thought we could hide away in the shadows, and nobody would notice us like.....and now we have to expose ourselves all over again, and do our dirty washing in public....oumagawd.....do I have to??....will you still love me in the mornin' if I do??....
Bridges over Madison County???...boring???......well, you've just exposed the fact that you have not a shred of sentimentality in you, Shippy......I'm not sure if you'll ever date again......
Sir, Thank you for your intelligent and measured reply. IN spite of that, I think we have crossed lines. The thread is about sef-sufficiency in matters of energy. And you seem to be going on about rich and poor, or environmental issues. Have I missed something,or are we talking about the same issues here... sincerely, Bob, the happy Eco-Hippy
I think some Bran-Flakes are in order.....this post has all the hallmarks of constipation and crankiness....please mix in some Leinsamen (german)....does wonders for your insides...before you know it, you'll be joking right along with us, and pedalling your exercise bike to drive that TV....
Brilliant idea.....the only way to power the TV is thru the exercise bike....simple magneto producing electricity.....imagine, you want to watch the average hour or 2 a day, you'd have no more fat people about....and half the gyms in town would go out of business.....briliiant!!....
EXCELLENT!!!!...me too....no Nicorettes, just will-power ...
Here's a workable device: Make sure you never have a pack of ciggies in the house in the morning, and it's usually too much trouble to go and buy the damn things.....so you end up getting to the end of the day without a smoke......obviously only useful if you work from home, and can control your environment...gives your lungs all day to get rid of that gunge....every day you are smoke free, is another day you give your lungs to clean themselves...
Update this thread tomorrow, and let us know how you are doing...
Well, you obviously didn't spend any time on the beach when you were in Malta.....this is SPEEDO country....guys strut their stuff here......and at every other possible opportunity too. An ersatz for displaying your banana in public is.....outfitting our car with a REALLY thick and chunky exhaust pipe...with something like a megaphone built into it.....use your imagination......and then driving around the town square all afternoon doing squealy wheelies at every opportunity...which means every time there is an audience of young women....the noise is quite incredible.....haven't these guys heard of rising gas prices???....but I suppose that's small beer when compared to the thrill of dancing bananas....
CORRECTION!! Please downgrade the alarm on Giant Maritime Slugs...... What happened was, a rather large amphibious being known as a Beer-Bellied Bikini-clad Brit Broad rubbed hulls with me in the water....needless to say, she didn't appreciate the vitamin C infusion....
So in this age of rising food prices, godzilla gas prices, rampant inflation, and rilly rilly expensive utility bills, how about this scenario: You install a giant trampoline net over your roof- that way, the sun keeps from baking it like an oven, and less cost to keep it cool. All the rainwater is caught, and runs into a well under the house. That supplies all your water needs, except drinking water. On the roof, you have an entire set-up of solar panels, which generates all your electricity needs. You rent a vegetable patch and become grocery-independent. Is this nostalgic hogwash or do people actually do this sort of stuff??.... Self-sufficiency kinda fascinates me, but I have no experience with the practicalities thereof.....
Have you ever done anything to liberate yourself from dependency on the power grid??
RE: Strange But True
good one...
