It the words of Sadam Hussien comparing his offenses against the Iraqi people to GWB offenses in the early days of the Iraqi war. I need to put this into context some for you to best understand.
The US has just invaded Iraq. US forces are a couple 100s miles into the country. Sadam and the Iraqi military command know that Baghdad is the goal of the offensive. They also know that they cannot stop it. They had more forces in the first Gulf war and they were better positioned but could not stop the US and its allies then. The outcome of this 'anticipated conflict' is already known in Baghdad.
I say anticipated conflict, because Sadam has been planning for a military invasion for quiet while. He had organized a number of special operations units. Special operations units that were to conduct a guerrilla war after the fall during the occupation.
For a guerrilla warfare to succeed, it needs the cooperation of the Iraqi people. Without that key support, a guerrilla war is a failure as well. Sadam, at this point, was very concerned that the Iraqi people were going to revolt against him. He felt he needed to remind them.....of why revolting against him was a very very very bad idea. Sadam is going to use fear to gain that cooperation.
The article was first published in Iraq in the Iraq newspapers. Then this small online new site picked it up. It did not get any major distribution then. Sadam is pre recording a TV interview and brought a number of Iraq media together. And this is what he tell them.......

Honestly this sounds more like a 'fact finding trip'. To find out the status of the Georgia military, including its armament level and its manpower status.
While such fact finding trips can mean a arms deal or other agreements in a mutual defense treaty......all that takes time to assess.
So I would not be thinking that the Georgians will anytime soon be over powering the Russian forces in the country.
So if he requested additional European assistance for Afghanistan...in a decent and nice way...not demanding or twisting any ones arm there....why only 5000 for training police and a couple of F-16?
I am not condemning the additional force level given, Rusty. Please understand that. Any additional help is appreciated. But we are headed into the Summer season....when the Taliban make their offenses. Additional NATO forces for that summer time offense(s)..is sorely needed. Those additional NATO force can help secure many of the non Taliban town and villages. Keep a lot of friendly Afghans alive if those offenses occurs.
I don't mind the US being the heavy combat fighter here. It was the US struck on 9/11. Just want NATO and Europe to show more resolve in this fight. Resolve means more man power commitment.
We (Europe and the US)lose in Afghanistan or even get substantial bent in the country....e.g. some ceasefire arrangement like there is in Pakistan.....then every radical Islamic cleric in the world points to it....just like they did went Russia pulled out....and says the west can be beaten.

I hope you are right. But only when those troops show up in Afghan will we really know. There were no solid promises to send them. So it at best it is a maybe at this time.

The cards were stacked against him to accomplish much on a first trip. There were established European leaders with agendas in both NATO and the G-20. So pretty tough for President Obama to achieve much of his desired programs and goals.

We are in the same trap that we were in Vet Nam now. Cannot cross the borders because a country soverniety is being violated. The longer we stay....the more the local government's milk the situation financially. They have absolutely no reason to end it.

The point I make here is this. Iraq with Sadam in power for the last 8 years was an Iraq headed into even worse conditions than what one was there last couple of years. It was surely headed into civil war. I assure you....from what I know of our US civil war....they are much more deadly to civilian and soldier than what occurred in Iraq these last years.
The American presence there.....in my opinion.....because I know the US military.....saved many Iraqi lives. We have data on the numbers of Iraqi that were treated in our mobile hospitals....1000s were. We have the food and community medical programs that were brought in. And the security that kept 100s of vehicles bombs from their targets.
Vehicle bombs were going to be used in this Iraqi civil war, Dude. As surely as you and me sit here and type.
Think what Obama did inherit in the Middle East. 1000s of foreign fighters captured. A Iran that has a US military presence on all sides. With a Persian Gulf that the west still controls. Oil is still flowing thru the straits....and down the pipelines. The later two....are vital to the world's economy

That the best way to combat the Taliban/AlQueada along the border was with combined Afghan/Pakistani units. That way moving across the border would not be a problem....a Afghani commander leads on the Afghan side...a Pakistani commander leads on the Pakistani side.
The border is then taken out of the equation to hide on. Taliban/AlQuada unit have no place to hide or flee to.
Has this worked in the past? Yes. Our Indian wars against the Apache of the 1880s. They used the border of Mexico to flee across and hide in. Similar terrian as the border region of Afghanistan/Pakistan....and they were just as brutual in terrorism as the Taliban/AlQueada are today. Combine forces were used...only they were native Indians and US troops that move across the border and take the war to them.
I would not sign off on a Predator strike....unless I knew beyond very high degree...that Taliban/AlQeada were in the house. This means on the 'ground intelligence' is being factor into the strike orders.
But the simple fact now is....that the Pakistani Army does not want to be in the region and the Paksitani Gov't is in a position to milk Washington.

I just attended a SBIR contracting conference with SOCOM doing a presentation. The hardest military spending and needs requirement to figure out is small unit ...small teams.
To out fit a infantry brigade....that is easy. Pull out the TOE manuals of equiping a soldier multiply by the 650....and you got it. Try an figure out the budget for a Navy Seal team....is like asking the question....how much cost to a team on a HILO mission to the Sahara.....opps no manual in the world written to give you the answer. Most of what is going to happen in Afghanistan....with Europe seemingly only intersted in providing support....is going to fall to our special ops types. Wait till President Obama finds out how those guys spend.
The SOCOM presenter....was wearing a $1000 dollar suit x 2...one for each day of the conference.
Most here....see energy independence as the way out. Some for economic reasons...BOP and that angle. I see it as a way to reduce the presence of the US in these regions. If he addresses them as well....down go the Iran talks. But at the G-20 or NATO did he table any of them? No....all Afghan and Pakistan.

Give it break. The Pakistani army has no intent in rounding up Taliban and AlQeada in the north west tribal regions. They forced reduced last year in the region exactly when the Taliban needed them to....early spring....so the Taliban could have fighters for a summer offensive in Afghanistan.
With President Obama saying that the US would sit in Afghanistan, while paying the Pakistani gov't billions in civilian and military aid, the gov't of Pakistan is no hurry to end this.
Having a few terrorist huts in the Pakistani tribal regions for Predator target practice....should be worth the billions in aid that the Pakistani are getting from the US.
