Perhaps the most famous put down in English is the retort made by John Wilkes when the Earl of Sandwich, (yes, it is after him that the popular snack is named) shouted at him: “You, Wilkes, will either die on the gallows or from the pox.”
“That depends, my Lord,” said Wilkes, “on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress.”

Keep a fire for the human race Let your prayers go drifting into space You never know what will be coming down Perhaps a better world is drawing near And just as easily it could all disappear Along with whatever meaning you might have found Dont let the uncertainty turn you around (the world keeps turning around and around) Go on and make a joyful sound
I'm pretty much into feminism but I love chivalry and manners in a man - but only if done with sincerity - I see through insincerity from a mile off nowadays - I hope

I was 38 when I first became a Granny and was having none of such words He grew up calling me Trish and still does at 15.
He has since acquired 5 cousins and they are all growing up calling me Trish too - its so nice to just be their friend.
They know I am their Gran but more importantly, they know I am their friend and they can get away with more with me than their parents - we laugh and play and its amazing.
If his memory is anything like mine it can be selective at will, not work when I need it to mostly and for some bizarre reason, right in the middle of serious situations I remember funny little scenarios - I can only say "love your fish cos he probably has a heart of gold" - keys, coats and dates may pose a problem but the love will be as deep as an ocean - good luck Hun
