I had some of the same concerns 31 years ago before my son was born. Really not much has changed other than there's too many people in the world. Now I have the same concerns for my new grandaughter...and what kind of world she'll have to look forward to.
My concerns are more related to terrorism and how world powers deal with those issues. To me, that supercedes everything else.
I would leave a few chapters out and make it a mystery. Mine's been a mix. I try to keep it a comedy, but maybe 10% has been a tragedy, but no worse than anyone elses, I'm sure.
