I am replying to you and it is taking me a while to think of what I want to say. I suppose what I want to say is I am really sorry for what you and your family have to go through. We all take so much for granted and worry about stupid things that it is only when something like this happens to us that we get our priorities right. Will we drop the alcholics and the people dependand on prescription drugs, sleeping tablets, benzo's, and all the other pills the doctor prescribes. we will need a few islands if we are to drop the ones addicted to illegal drugs also.
you are entitled to your opinion on what makes a person weird or otherwise. I am a million different things and I smoke. Smoking is not who I am but it is something that I do. Why you choose not to have a smoker in your life is also entirely up to you and does not need to be explained. You found it easy to give up smoking and that is great. I wish I found it easy but I don't. Now that maybe because I have no will power or because I am weird or because I will not change to have a man in my life. But that's the way it is. I would not expect someone to change to be with me.
You are right that we have different opinions on this and also that all people are not the same. When, in the past I was in relationships I only ever did one thing and that was to be myself. The only change in me was I was a happier person. On addiction, are you saying that the only people who cannot quit are not normal. Nicotine is as addictive as heroin, and is as difficult to quit if not more so. You are also right that if a person believes they cannot do it then they have doomed themselves to failure from the start. I don't think it's impossible to quit what I am saying is that the person who is addicted has to want to quit for themselves and it has to come from them. Whether it be relationships or quitting smoking I stopped doing things to please other people a long time ago. I make changes for me. Your point about not considering getting to know a person because they smokeworks both ways. As a smoker one of the first things I look for in a profile is whether they smoke or not. Most non smokers are like you and don't want to get into something with someone who smokes, so both are restricted. One day I will be a non smoker. Because I have given them up for me.
I am so sorry for what you are going through right now and what you wrote really touched me and made me think. I am a mother of three and I tell my children often that there is nothing they could possibly do to make me stop loving them. this is true for your mother too and please stop beating yourself up because you lost your cool a couple of times. your Mom loves you and will never ever stop no matter what. I also know that some day I will no longer be here with my kids and all I can hope for is that they do their best, and I don't care what they do for a living or what possessions they have. what I want of them is that they treat people how they would wish to be treated and are really kind and thoughtful and if they can help someone along the way then reach out that hand. I wish I could say something that would make you feel better but I know there is nothing I can say except, for what it is worth, someone a long way away is thinking about you and your mom and I will say a prayer that at least you find peace of mind. xx
As a matter of interest how much do they cost in the States. I will be there in a few weeks and was thinking of bringing one home for my daughter. Everything is so expensive over here.
