Thanks Martia. I know about Metacam, its good stuff have used it many a time before for pain relief for the dogs. The main problem is he is causing problems with his other back leg to trying to support his bad one. The good hock joint is quite weak and gives the appearance that it could go the same way any day. He regulary goes to a Greyhound Chyropractor/ Manipulater, in fact it is due to him that Josh is still around. He has fixed both hocks at least 4 times. The problem is occurring cause he is such an athelete and has the mind of a working dog, he turns sharply while at full gallop or slams on the brakes suddenly...like a stock horse and keeps damaging the joints in his hock. He weighs in at 30kg and is a large dog and is to heavy to be turning like that. He keeps jarring the joint. I will just watch him and as long as he has quality of life he will be ok but the moment he loses that l will do the right thing for him.
Thanks bj, thanks everyone. He's a great dog and a great mate, l will just enjoy his company for as long as l can. Hopefully he comes good again this time. Ive just never seen his leg so bad.
I could have it fused with plates and screws but he is so active l wont be able to keep him still long enough for it to recover properly. Sadly he is a true working dog.
Josh is so active, runs around non stop playing and he turns too sharp going to fast and he keeps injuring his hock joint. He only knows two speeds go and stop. The whole joint is grating and swollen this time. He may have dont to much damage this time for it to recover...
Thats great serene, what was wrong with him? My dog Josh has a very badly injured back leg, silly fool is so active he keeps hurting the same leg over and over again. He is far to active to even consider having surgery on it.
