RE: How do you stop loving someone you cant have

That is a great point. I learned that in order to make a decent impression on anyone, you need to learn how to love yourself for who you are, you need learn about who you are first, and then...you need to be yourself, and learn how to love being yourself.

The only thing that is a negative about that is, I am having a hard time finding someone decent. There are many people that do not have social, people, communication, and life skills in this world. I found the time to learn about myself during the last few years. That's the beauty of college life.

I don't plan to give up on anything like finding a life partner, finding a beautiful career, a lovely home, etc. These things take time, and I believe that loving yourself and being yourself are the two keys to getting what you want from life.

I don't want a girlfriend, a life partner, a friend, etc. that I cannot be myself around. I hate egos and I don't like it when somebody assumes that I am somebody else, and expects me to act and behave that way. That's why it is important to love yourself more and learn how to do that.

Who Likes Listening to Distant Stations?

Thanks for posting those two videos. They were awesome. I really hate to go off the topic, but I am a Beatles fan. I don't like their later works because they were more "mature," but I like The Beatles more than most people my age.

I did say in my original post that I listen to a Kansas City classical music station. However, I really do not like classical music as an entire genre. I like light classical music (which is what I usually hear on KXTR 1670 AM). It really soothes me, makes me concentrate on things, and anyone can really like it. How can someone not love the sounds of a harp or even a beautiful, flute composition?

I took the time to read KXTR's website. Just like 98.7 and the former 97.1, they too have programs and such that are devoted toward the more "dark" (or in my words, "emo") side of classical music. I will give credit to the talent it took to play and compose what was done. However, everyone has different tastes. I really cannot sit through Vivaldi or Bach. I am usually a mild-mannered person and need to be in a certain kind of mood to appreciate it.

Funny story, before I became a member of Connecting Singles, I was flirting with a girl that loved the whole spectrum of classical music, and any artists, or any genre that were influenced by the composers. It really drove my nuts and I stopped flirting and seeing her. I couldn't really stand her. She was forcing me to like something. I don't find listening to Baroque Classical music romantic. The woman was weird. Maybe I should have stayed with her because maybe I would like her tastes in music, if I learned to appreciate classical music influences.

Back to the topic, I love listening to distant stations on the radio. Real country music (not some urbanized garbage) can be heard on a number stations like 1520 out of Arkansas and a Bible thumping preacher (Brother Stair) can be heard on 1530 (Cincinatti) after 12 midnight and KXTL 1540 (Iowa) after 9:00 PM. Oldies can be heard on 1420 WIMS (Michigan), 1430 KZQZ from St. Louis, 1580 CKDO from Canada, and 1590 KAHR from Ohio. I am really happy that you are interested in this topic.

RE: What do you love about Illinois

I like well-kept, beautifully maintained, older homes too. They are a lot different than what you see in the city and some inner suburbs. I also like the fact that towns like mine actually care about their citizens, their local economies, education, and other important things. I also like the expressway system and highway layout. It's easy to go from one town to the next, or even to another state. I also love the prairies and forest preserves. That is always something to love and cherish. Nature is the thing I love most about Illinois. There's a lot more to this state than just Chicago. Come to think of that, I think I love that even more.

RE: What do you hate about ILLinois

I despise of most of the state's politics, especially the liberals in the Chicago area and the conservatives in the rural areas. I also don't like Chicago these days. Downtown is overbuilt. Daley should have put the money into fixing up the city, instead of turning it into an upper class city, with luxury condos, coffeeshops, and other useless places. The lower class people need a place to live too. This is why I will always be a suburbanite.

Plus, people that helped make the city years ago are dying or retiring. The Empire Carpet Man died a week ago. A number of great people have also died. Small businesses and historical landmarks are shutting down or are demolished, leaving vacant lots and places for drug dealers. Traffic, noise, and congestion are too high. People drive too fast for whatever reason and are usually distracted by electronic devices like cell phones.

Winter (especially this year) was the worst I have ever seen. Crime in a number of cities has risen because of poor police patrol. Some women in this state are very cocky, aren't interested in actually having a relationship, and often have attitude problems. This is from my observation of things.

RE: crazy drivers on the dead ryan

My theory is, we live in a day and age of "hurry up, do it now. Or else." I don't know for sure, but when I was a child, I didn't see much of that. I also noticed that main roads with speed limits of 25, 30, and 35, groups of vehicles (and even lone vehicles) will do at least 10 miles per hour above the posted speed limit.

95th Street (by my house) is a fine example of this. It's usually 45-50 mph in the flow of traffic. The police can only do so much, but I credit them with setting up speed traps and making enforcement tougher. I don't care what cop haters say, the roads these days are more dangerous than they were 10 or 15 years ago. I always feel great whenever I see someone pulled over and getting a ticket for being in such in hurry like that.

Here is an Interesting Hobby

I thought I would bring this topic up and see where this goes. I have been fascinated with radio since I was in seventh grade. Between 1999 and sometime in 2002, I became a DX'er, or someone who loves listening to and recording distant radio stations. It is amazing what you can find. I live in the suburbs, so I can do really well, but I actually wished I could live in the country. I have rode around late at night during the summer, a few times in 2009 and 2010, scanning the radio dial. Typically, the lower AM band has stronger stations from the larger cities, so I spend much of my time between 1000 and 1700 AM.

What I find is amazing. Right now, I am laughing hysterically at a Bible Thumper who claims to be a "Christian." Has anyone ever heard of Brother R. G. Stair? He seems like he tells the truth, but he is so critical of things. I also love listening to a classical music station, a few oldies stations, and a few sports talk stations. AM Radio in America, away from big cities, is really interesting. I would like to know if anyone in Australia listens to distant stations. What is radio like in your part of the world?

Who Likes Listening to Distant Stations?

The hobby is called DX'ing. I have been doing this since December 13th, 2008. Although, I had started doing this in September of 1999 (when I was seventh grade). I cannot tell you how awesome this hobby is. If I lived a little further away from the Bridgeview area, I could do even better. There are a number of stations you can get between 1200 and 1670 AM, after sunset. I live outside Chicago, so interference from the main stations, like WGN and WBBM makes the lower AM dial hard to hear.

I listen to a wide variety of stations, ranging from a Kansas City classical music station to a Cincinatti ESPN station. I also listen to an Indian music station and an oldies station from Canada. All of my family and friends love hearing about what I listen to.

Right now, I am laughing really hard at Brother Stair on WXCL 1540 AM out of Central Iowa. He is really funny because he embarasses himself on the radio. Plus, he has told so many lies about 2012 and other things. He's talking about Osama Bin Laden right now. It's coming in really clear at times.
This station is an ABC News/right-wing talk station before 9:00 PM. During the late night hours, it's Bible-Thumpers all night long.

I am really happy that radio has held on, especially AM. I don't like most of what's on TV these days, and I am often going around the radio, and having fun with what I listen to. I would much rather be laughing at a Bible Thumper in a radio room, than laughing at something raunchy and sick on TV. Who else loves radio and distant stations?

RE: Bin Laden dead on Obama's watch YAY

I had a feeling that sometime during the Obama administration that Bin Laden would be dead. Bush certainly could not even bother with capturing this terrorist mastermind. Obama gets plenty of support and congratulations from me. This should be a time of celebration. Usually, it is a nasty idea of celebrate someone's death, but this is the best news I have heard in a long time. I wonder how this is going to look in 2012 when it comes time to re-elect Obama.

RE: Ongoing Exes

I don't know how I allowed it to be in this fake relationship I had, but I think I allowed drama to enter because I made the stupid mistake of meeting this person. I really don't know. One thing I do know is that life is hard. Hopefully, this won't happen again. But, telling the ex-friend or girlfriend to pissoff is absolutely right.

RE: Ongoing Exes

I read the replies after my post. I know it sounded weird to you, but I will say that this world is weird. I know it's off the topic, but I have spent the last ten years, not living under a rock. Yes, there is truly no such thing as a 100%, drama free relationship. However, I believe in actually listening to the other person, and working around obstacles. I have to go to bed, but think about this: would you like it if someone was going around, acting "above the law," and imposing something on you? I'll pick up on this tomorrow.

RE: Ongoing Exes

I have this problem. The good news is, most of my ex-g/fs have lost contact someway, somehow with my family. My current problems come from a woman, my age (24) that I met back in January. I would really like it if you could carefully understand the next few points. The woman does not understand that: 1. We were only just friends. 2. We promised never to have a relationship until we were ready to have one. 3. Within two months, she was insisting that I date her. 4. I do not like her, and I hate how she lectures me about her job. She's a music theory teacher and she is always lecturing me about the importance of classical, romantic, and baroque music. I have not seen or talked to her since Wednesday. I don't like people who lecture and act as if they are always right. I want an absolutely, 100%, drama free relationship. I can't even have a friendship with her. I will keep searching for a woman who is not like that.

RE: Personal hygiene

This from a male perspective: Turn offs on a date would include something like poor manners (i.e. not using "please," "thank you," or some sort of friendly greeting), burping, farting (I don't care how beautiful and large your butt is), agressive driving if going somewhere by car, yelling, shouting, screaming, blowing/picking nose, drinking alcohol compulsively, provocative clothing, and getting into trouble. All I ask for is something graceful, pleasant, and beautiful. If I am not making face contact with you, then something's wrong.

RE: Favourite Romance songs

Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop Goes My Mind- Levert (1986)
Love Zone- Billy Ocean (1985)
Caravan of Love- Isley Jasper Isley (1985)

Three of my favorite from the 80s R&B explosion.

RE: CS Forums

Thank you. I like the Australia/New Zealand forum for that reason. I also wanted to make some new friends and pen pals from your region too. I really think you are very graceful, compassionate, and friendly. I always have the room I need to be myself. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The forums on this site are more friendly and geared toward connecting singles, hence the site's name. I don't like message boards or forums much because of the overall negative nature. Often, you find flame wars over the smallest things. I am really happy to be a member of Connecting Singles and I plan to stay here.

RE: Age difference?

Try to stay as close to your age as possible. I would say no more than five years either way, older or younger than you. I have noticed that one match I found on here was four years older than me (27 years old, I am 24). That's not bad, but it could be less, which is what you want.

Question About a Holiday

I thought I would ask my questions in this forum because of the "spiritual" nature of it, or lack of. I am not being a jerk just because I refuse to celebrate Halloween, I really feel this way. I also feel that Halloween really has an impact on modern day culture in America. Just look at the news for even a few seconds.

Question About a Holiday

I am really happy that Halloween is not celebrated in Australia. However, that's a shame that some people in your nation are currently celebrating it. For the last two years, I have had my doors locked and I have had neighbors periodically check on my house. I have been doing alternative activities such as going to the forest and camp inside an trailer with a close friend and her family. Halloween is unrecognizable, compared to countless years ago. Your summarized history holiday makes sense to me, but it took me a few times to read to really get it. That's because the holiday really was so different that long ago. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Question About a Holiday

I do not know if this is the right forum to post something like this, but is it true that Halloween is not celebrated in Australia? I thought I would ask because it looks as though a number of nations in recent years have had it introduced to them. I have always found this holiday to absurd for a number of reasons. I just don't understand, or grasp the outrageous concept of embracing things that have to do with darkness and death. Something isn't right about that. Halloween in America is really nasty because there are people that go too far and set things on fire and openly practice satanic rituals. I would like to know what you think of Halloween and whether or not it is celebrated in your nation.

RE: How do you stop loving someone you cant have

Here is what I think: I am a real victim of this. I live in an area where people go from relationship to relationship or early marriage before age 25. I was one of the few that was frozen out. It really hurt me emotionally. I was often yelled at for "hitting on" women that were already hooked up and such. There is nothing you can do (that I can think of)to stop loving someone that you cannot have.

If anything, you could work really hard and look for someone "better" than who you love. You could work with a matchmaker or a site like this one. Who knows, if search hard enough, you could finally get that person off your mind and move on with someone else. Then, when you're having a lonely moment and that person is back on your mind, why not work on communications skills with that new sweetheart and tell him or her what's bothering you. Life is about doing the right thing, no matter what it is.

I would much prefer to actually remain single all this time, instead of doing insane things like early marriage and blindly finding girlfriends left and right. Always logically think about, determine, and choose the solution that has "less pain" involved. I bet you that within a few years, my peers will be breaking up and filling divorce papers, while I am actually taking the time to build a relationship or even marriage, without rushing it.

RE: Jesus Comes...

I was just thinking about this. Clearly, Jesus Christ is never going to come. Think about it. There is no proof, no sign, no evidence that Jesus is magically going to come. It's just more right-wing, hillbilly trash. I hate people that use fallacies like this to simply get a kick out of scaring people. It doesn't work on me or anyone with an actual, working brain.

RE: I think the Carbon Tax is -

The governments want to create fallacies about global warming, climate changes, and other knowingly false lies to scare people. The governments love to do this. They care more about their luxury items and vacations then they do about the people that they are supposed to serve. Clearly, this whole "environmentally friendly" and "green" movement is all because of this left-wing, scare tactic-filled, hippie-based, global warming garbage. I won't put up with it either. If it's one thing I don't like it's unnecessary taxes that are made up and based on lies. It has been happening every day in America since Bush took office in 2001. It sickens me. I won't be paying any of this either.

RE: What do you like about being single?

Thank you so much. You are really cool too. That is so true. Only I am qualified to be who I am. Only you are qualified to be who you are. One thing I like about having Australian pen-pals (and hopefully one day, an Australian woman) is that they highly and heavily encourage you to be yourself, and feel totally, 100% comfortable too. All the best to you too.

Questions About The Price of Gas

In the United States, we are currently paying over FOUR dollars for one gallon of gasoline. In the city of Chicago, most gas prices are around $4.40. One station in the state of California (probably Los Angeles because of the high cost of things) is selling gas at $5.05 per gallon already. So, I would like to know (from my own curiosity) if gasoline is more expensive in Australia. One internet link said that you all pay more than ($7 perhaps?). Also, what do you think the cause is for high gas prices. Many people in America are blaming president Barack Obama and his administration, but I think the Middle East fighting and the Libya conflicts are the real reasons. I really don't know.

RE: What do you like about being single?

I want to take my time finding my life partner. I don't think it is a good idea to blindly rush into a marriage or relationship too soon. I want to find a woman by actually looking for someone that I can be myself around. I don't care how long it takes to find someone, I won't enter a relationship until I find a serious life partner.

RE: bible 'bashers'

Before I reply to your commentary, I just want to say that you Australian people are some of the nicest and most graceful people in the world. I really notice that in you, generalization or not. With that said, these Bible Thumpers sure "suck sweet." I really agree you. I also agree that "Thumpers" (that's the American term) are much harder to scare away in the United States than in Australia. The only other experience I had with them was two years ago. This happened a few times while I was at home, peacefully sleeping.

After 9:00 AM, one man (dressed like he was going to a funeral) and a woman were walking door to door in my suburban Chicago neighborhood. They were selling Bibles. I do not let anyone into my house, especially strangers. I do not know what church they are from. They looked like religious conservatives, based on how dishonest they presented themselves to me. I ask for the person to identify themselves first, then I ask why they are at my door. You can never be too careful, especially these days. I was taught that a stranger could very well have a gun, or even have the desire to rob you.

These two people were selling Bibles. I have a New Testament study Bible (2004 or so) and an older Bible from years ago (also New Testament). I didn't need a Bible, especially from these delinquents. I kept it simple. I told them (after they rung my doorbell about five times each visit) that I didn't want a Bible. When I was asked why, I replied, "You people are Thumpers. You're very dishonesy, impolite, and you never force fallacies of anything, including religion down anyone's throat." I also said, "The next time I see you doing this, I am calling the police." Luckily, after that third time, it never happened again.

I love God, I honor God, and I pray to him silently often. However, the Bible is something that should not be mocked. What is said in the Bible should not be twisted and thumped by mankind. Bible thumping is a sin, because of lying and dishonesty. So is listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and whoever supports these people. I am really happy that we are discussing this. This is a serious issue in today's world of schemes to make fast money. I wanted to know if anyone (and I am sure of this) has had thumpers come to their door. What did they do? Did you take action against them?

Questions About Indian Women

I love women from many cultures and parts of the world. It's because our world is a melting pot. I find many things about women from Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, southern Europe, and Europe to be very beautiful, spiritual, and intelligent. Recently, I have considered contacting some women in India. Since I was a child, I have found the Indian cultures to be the most beautiful, seductive, and passionate in the world. I love sitar and drum banging music, Bollywood movies, meditation practices, yoga stretches, the food (which is as spicy and delicious as the women), the lighthearted accents, monuments, and so much more.

So, my questions are: 1. Are international women more beautiful and appealing to American men? 2. Are international women with American men becoming more common? 3. What do you think of Indian women...do you think they are very beautiful? I have noticed that Indian women are very positive and really work hard in life. I would love someone that not only has totally beautiful looks, but certainly isn't lazy and spends her time watching junk on TV. Let me know what you're thinking.
