No offense to you John , but you need to catch yourself on...unless you are walking in the shoes of the women who have to make such a difficult decision, it would be hard for you to understand what it is like for them
In a very sad way , if it is Madeline, she has been released from the horrific nightmare that she would have been living with the person who took her..
She was the most fabulous little angel anyone could ever meet who unforunatley had been giving a terrible life. I simple gave her the time she needed to speak, thats all. I didnt pressure her, went at her pace, told her stories about it being Ok to say no when she wanted to, using my life as an example She learned by watching other children that were there, that it was Ok to speak and that I wouldnt reprimand her for voicing her opinion, no matter if it went against what we were doing..Over the 18 months she watched me through out, seeing how interacted with the other children and eventually made her own mind up, when she was ready to speak. Have to say it was the most glorious feeling in the world watching this child have a tantrum after being so docile for so long.. I cheered her and asked her to do it again and received the first genuine smile that she ever gave amidst her shouting NO!!
I spent 18 months working with a little girl trying to get her to talk..One of the proudest moments in my life was when she put her hands on her hips and said shouted "NO!!"
