RE: The Elusive Phone Call

It takes time to earn that trust from many women on dating sites. You perhaps need to be more patient. What's the hurry anyway? Isn't it better to get to know someone well before you take it that step further?

Caution is the key word.

RE: Your favorite dog breed!!Good one!!

Golden Labrador. They are such gentle, intelligent dogs. I had one for years but he stayed in England with the ex when I moved abroad. He died 4 years ago now. crying

I can't have a dog here much as I would love one as I'm out at work all day and often spend time working in other countries during the summer months.

When I retire I'll have my puppy Lab.

RE: Should Canada and the U.S merge to become one conutry?

I've always been of the impression that Canada and the USA are worlds apart! The health service for one is entirely different isn't it?

RE: Would you send your exs a christmas card

RE: Can a woman tell when another woman is pregnant before her belly swells?

RE: Good idea? Bad idea?

I think I would feel too uncomfortable with that arrangement and in fact it wouldn't enter my mind. My close friends and their partners have been part of my life for a long time.

RE: my son's baptism photo in my profile picture

What a nice pic, and how smart you look in your suit. wave

RE: Elderly/sick parents

You must have a heart of gold for looking after your mum for so long, even though you are a pervy geezer here at times. rolling on the floor laughing hug

I read somewhere once about someone searching for a nursing home for her mother. The one she eventually chose was the only one which didn't smell of piss. blues

RE: Elderly/sick parents

Again not entirely true. I live here and most of my friends are doctors. Spain has autonomous regions, different rules apply in each of them. Here and in most regions free places are available for anyone, expat or native, who has residency status and holds a Spanish health card. There are fewer free places available as I said previously because families generally look after their elderly relatives, but they are available. If not, private nursing homes are aplenty just as in the UK, though a small percentage, as low as 15 percent of the over 65 age group, actually require them due to the family taking on the responsibility of care. This is an issue which is being addressed now in Spain as the traditions are changing due to more women working and more people seeking work abroad.

From what I often read though, pensioners in the UK often have to sell their homes to pay for their care in nursing homes. dunno

RE: Beauty and success

Yes it's a true fact of life, and many studies have been undertaken which proves it.

I interview potential teachers regularly and I do my utmost not to be swayed by an attractive face of either gender, but it is not easy when two people have the same qualifications and experience. The classroom can be a cruel environment, not so much for adult classes, but where children are concerned most definitely.

RE: Elderly/sick parents

Not true. There are many nursing homes here, fewer free nursing homes than in the UK at the moment, but that's because the family still look after their elderly in general. I also have to say that the Spanish health care system is inarguably better than the NHS so those nursing homes often provide much better care. I've seen some so I know.

The problem is that many Brits come here and don't register for full residency which entitles them to a Spanish health card and subsequently the same free health care rights as the Spanish, nor pay into a private health insurance plan. They get sick, haven't learnt a word of Spanish, have no medical card or private health insurance, and they get scared understandably. So, they go back to the UK.

RE: Can a woman tell when another woman is pregnant before her belly swells?

I too mentioned the morning sickness, the lucozade I hadn't thought of, but yes I think you're right there. laugh

RE: Elderly/sick parents

And yet we very often hear and read about how elderly folk are abused in their own homes and many nursing homes. dunno

I think LadyDiz touched on the problem which exists in many parts of the Western world, and that is the fact that families, however close, are often split and living in different countries.

My mother and her long term partner, my dad number 2! come from the UK to stay with me here in Spain two or three times a year for at least four weeks each time. I have a feeling that she would prefer me to look after her rather than my siblings should the need arise, and the thought of a nursing home frightens her. Though that would be difficult for me given that I'm quite used now to living on my own and I work full time, I would do it without hesitation. She has been the best mother in the world and always been there for me.

RE: Can a woman tell when another woman is pregnant before her belly swells?

Pregnancy in the early stages can often be blighted with severe morning sickness and that is one of the first indicators. As for me, and many other women, I was fortunate enough not to have suffered with it, and my belly didn't show much until around 5 months into the pregnancy so nobody would have guessed unless I'd told them.

I was very young when I had my children, 20 and 21 years old, and perhaps because of that I did not have any problems such as excess weight gain, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, hair thinning, tooth loss, etc, which some mums to be have to contend with. With all of those hormonal changes going on I agree with Glat, pregnant women do not "bloom!" in most cases. They may be extremely happy though which will obviously shine through.

RE: Your Daily Food Contains

Veggies yes I agree, fish too, but I probably eat too much meat. Sugar no, I try to avoid it as much as possible and don't have it in my coffee. I do like a bit of chocolate now and then though. laugh

I have a benecol drink every morning. It's supposed to reduce cholesterol which I don't have a problem with yet thankfully though I'm at that age so better to be safe than sorry. blues

RE: Nobel Peace Prize

No, I think the right choice was made. Whilst I think she is a very brave young woman something doesn't sit quite right with me. I think her father is the spokesperson behind her and he is guiding her.
