I think some of the new "would-be-regular-posters" are put off by all the boring chit chat amongst seemingly cliquey members. They must feel like they've turned up at a party where everyone knows each other except themselves so they feel ignored and vow never to return.
This even turns off some of the older regular posters.
My perspective is a little different. I would have to say both my parents and NOT to be like them. They are both bigots, cruel, people. So I took it upon myself to be as different from them as possible.
