RE: Being Avoided

Next time I feel lonely I will go and cut down a big tree and send you a picture of it. Guess that should get you in a fighting mood.

Enjoy the sunshine and the roaring south easterlies while we have now inherited the big rains.

RE: 50-50 in RELATIONSHIPS

Step carefully now Angelana and dont get yourself hurt

RE: Being Avoided

I am living way out in the bush in zambia and initially thought this to be 'n nice way of getting some contact with somebody - anybody - but soon realised that this is not quite to be. Yes I felt like you sometimes - avoided.

There is a sure way of not being avoided - just pick a fight with somebody who seems popular. It works for me when I am really feeling the crunch of loneliness. (Maybe I should not have made that technique public though.)

RE: does age matter

I dated a lady 22 years younger than me and I really enjoyed this relationship. I learnt from her as she learnt from me. We shared the world of music and stage. We were able to discuss a wide range of subjects on which we had differing opinions and differing perspectives. Most important we could respect and love each other without baggage. The people around us however did not like this and could not see the depth of our interest in each other.

RE: What is the meaning of life?

Several said it is to live. Sounds sensible to me but I would go one step further. We have been given some remarkable features to do this living with (apart from procreating as seems to be the primary motive of many here judged from the titles of threads).

1)We can learn, reason and distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil etc. Even more we can have fun doing so.

2)We can love

3)We can enjoy

4)We can choose - particularly how and why we live and what the meaning of our lives will be.

Many people seems to live without enjoying, loving or spending any time finding pleasure in learning from the great treasure trove of knowledge that is available. They choose not to give their lives any meaning but simply to exist.

RE: Crazy World...........

OK the Ipod is one example of what they made possible. Not a good example because it does not really change the world.

What does change the world is the ability to move recording studio's and video editing suites into PC's in our living rooms. What does change the world is the ability to acquire, store and distribute massive amounts of earth observation data and to move the analysis and interpretation thereof into machines that nearly anybody can afford.

It certainly changed my world because I move in both those spheres.

RE: globel warming

I have witnessed an incredible event displaying the wonder of God's creation. This happened in the time when I met Him. It brought me to the realisation that God builds the answer to every problem we face into the problem. I have since looked out for repeats of this idea and found this same truth in so many areas the life He gave us.

There was this major algae bloom in the cold nutrient rich waters off the west coast of South Africa in 1994. It resulted in the total depletion of oxygen in the water and the immediate destruction of all marine life. The environmentalists cried "foul". They blamed everybody and every factory for this event. Gothbabe should remember it well. Specialists predicted that the environment would not recover in 30-40 years of the event. A great stench of decay hung over the area and for miles inland. All water had this sick black colour.

I lived in a small town at the mouth of a fairly large river at the time. I love water so one day decided to travel up the river for some miles to see how far the influence of the algae bloom stretched. To my amazement I found that there was a sharp line boundary 3 miles up the river. On the one side was this black water and on the other beautifull clean water. Even more amazing was the billions of small hatchlings swarming happily in the clean water. The water was litterally alive with fish. I have never before seen anything like it. It made me wonder why this happened and then I realised that here next to me was a great big intertidal swamp.

In the days that followed I kept on returning to see what was happening. A large part of the intertidal swamp was normally an inert brown mud but now it started to become a lush green - the feeding and breeding place of billions of hatchlings.

I also went out to sea to study this. One of the things I noticed was that because of the absence of sea bamboo the movement of sand changed and large areas of rock normally covered by sand was cleared. God's wonderfull creation was ready to receive and protect the newcomers.

I can go on and on but to finish this - the environment re-established itself through small unforeseen events in about 2 years. God had the solution to this problem at hand - inside the problem.

Let us not get to believe that our influence stretch further than that of God. He put us here, He loves us and He gave us an incredibly well engineered place to stay. Let us honour Him for that and look to Him for the answers that He already built into His creation.

RE: globel warming

Buddy I just offer information from a scientific point of view. What you do with it is your business and I do not take offense at whatever you say about me.

What does really get me down is having to see information that stood the test of the scientific process being rendered equal to the untested views that prolifirate on the internet and in the media. We are taking a major step backwards when we chose to simply throw out the well established and documented information and replace it with views of politicians, activists and amateurs that we read somewhere on a googled internet document.

I choose not to fall into that trap and I stand for discussion based on supporting evidence. Would love for other people to join me in this.

RE: Does anyone enjoy reading like I do?????

I had a very similar problem and finally came to the conclusion that my brain get's bored when reading. My solution was to increase the speed at which I take in information, by developing a scan reading technique - forcing myself to keep up concentration.

In scan reading I do not read sequential but scan for keywords en then fill in what I do not grasp immediately. When I understand I immediately move on. It did wonders for me and opened up a whole world of information. I still cant read fiction - it bores me out of my mind.

Another thing that helps a lot is if I find some common ground with the author. Because of this I like reading material predating 1960. I find that the writing style of the era appeals to me.

CG I really hope this helps you because I understand your frustration.

RE: globel warming

You sure are foolish and lack the will to learn. There is nothing to believe in here. It is a simple matter of empirical science backed up by intensive peer review. The K-T boundary is not speculation by one or two people - it is the result of many independant peoples work in many different countries. It can not be refuted by the standard answer used by sceptics questioning dating by radioactive decay because the dating is irrelevant.

Simple fact - Earth recovered from the ultimate heavy metal poisoning event and continued to sustain life.

RE: globel warming

Nature has done a much better job of poisoning earth than we will ever be able to. Go read up on what is called the K-T boundary (or Cretaceous Tertiary boundary). It is a relatively recent event in Geological time and is characterised by a layer of severe heavy metal poisoning - primarily iridium that is found everywhere on earth. It is thought to be the result of some cataclysmic event such as a major meteorite impact.

We will never even be able to produce that amount of heavy metal nor of spraying it as effectively over earths surface. It was the ultimate contaminating event and should have wiped out all life on earth. If what you are suggesting is true then earth should never have recovered from this event - but it did. The proof is that we exist.

Atomic bombs? If you understood what it is you would also understand that dealing with its aftermath is really a natural process that earth has been involved in since birth. Biological warfare is very specific to a small part of earths inhabitants and has never been done on a scale where it even made a dent in earths armour or for that matter our armour. Somebody talking a lot of nonsense have really put a scare into you.

RE: Where do you prefer to live in ?

thumbs up

RE: globel warming

Maybe I should put some things into perspective:

1)The yearly output of gases held responsible for global warming from earth itself exceeds that of man by several thousand times.

2)During the first explosion of Krakatoa in about 700AD several cubic kilometers of material and huge amounts of hothouse gases was flung into the atmosphere, creating a new seaway into the South China sea. The weather patterns and insulation levels of the entire northern hemisphere was affected for about 15-20 years and food production was severely affected. The effect on humans - hunger and disease followed which in turn led to the fall of the reigning chinese dynasty and the rise of a new city state controlling this new seaway.

Earth re-established itself and because of higher crop yields experienced in the following years and improved trade because of the new seaway the South China sea area became fabulously rich. This in turn led to merchant passages to far away places such as east africa being undertaken by the Indonesian people who eventually settled there and started gold mining activities adding to the prosperity of their people and the start of a new era. Africa's was at its historical dawn.

RE: globel warming

Our views differ on one important aspect - What we are talking about. If we are worried about earth's continued existence and ability to sustain life - we need not be. It will look after itself as it is designed to do and has been doing for a long time - and is doing now.

If we are worried about our own continuing existence and ability to reproduce life then we probably have reason. My reason for saying this is that one of the standard ways nature protects itself when put under stress is by attempting to get rid of the highest life forms - in this case us. This scenario has repeated itself many times in the past - mostly while we were not around. Our only way of surviving is by adapting to changing conditions. Lucky for us humans have shown their ability throughout history to be very adaptable. Unlucky for us this ability is suppressed by easy living.

Ball is in our court. I am agreeing with you that the deed has been done and imminent global warming is a fact of life. I am disagreeing that we are primarily responsible or that we can change its course substantially. What we can do is adapt to new conditions as earlier generations did.

RE: How do you feel about a long distance relationship?

I would imagine that it could be very good to start a relationship over some distance. It would force a couple to spend more time and effort to explore the mind. But there comes a time when exploring the body is needed to complete the building of a relationship and "close proximity" is the catch phrase

RE: History Questions

Correct. The US government was acting and was already building up an intelligence organisation closely linked with that of the British and was supplying gear through the lend lease program - mostly to Russia. The problem was not with your leadership who mostly understood the need to get involved but with the people who did not see this as their problem untill it became their problem.

The government had to walk a political tight rope around this question - from there springs one of the conspiracy theories that the president was aware of the imminence of the Pearl Harbour bombings but allowed it to happen to rally support for his plans - but that is the topic of some other thread.

RE: Freedom

"I just don't understand why it seems so important for so many people to *pretend* they believe in freedom, when obviously, they value it so little."

I can see where you are coming from when you make the above statement. "Freedom" has become popular battle cry in todays society where the concept of "human rights" rule supreme - as somebody else said;"without the will to take responsibility".

There is another part of this to consider though: Freedom in the Biblical sense (for me the true sense) is a state of mind where finding The Truth and chosing righteousness puts you outside the influence of physical and mental restraint, lies, deceit and even illness and death - even if you physically suffer in a big way from the effects of these. Freedom thus is of the mind and soul - to be able to see and live by the real picture and to remove the negative influences of the false picture that we are fed from birth as somebody else remarked. Freedom is to belong to The Truth and to serve people.

Nothing to do with a "Matrix" concept because it is not a model of the something.

RE: Freedom

The voice of reason!!!

And a state of complete absence of restraint is not only impossible but also not workable

RE: HAVE YOU ever been rejected from somewhere or by people because of who or what you are ?

And I have been rejected so many times by so many people that it doesnt even hurt any more. What I learnt is that the special people - those whom I want to meet anyway - looks deeper than what is on the surface and expect more from the mind and soul.

Now I am quite positive about being rejected. For me rejection has become an excellent filter to keep my sphere of influence uncluttered by junk.

RE: Is global warming an issue as you view it? If so...

At last!!! Another voice in the wilderness trying to talk some sense into the masses.

RE: Sorry all you yanks!

Congratulations to the English who put Australia down in the world cup

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

You also fail to understand what I am saying.

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

OK I will capitulate now. What is happening to them is not funny

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

Good you are getting there. Now smile gently. Beware of any cracking sounds

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

And what does that have to do with our joking about his thread title?

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

Yes I am sure you are right and the reason for this would be that most people have never been in a really tight - possibly fatal spot. Some of us have been there more than once and came to recognise that the only way to keep yourself sane when life becomes a fight for survival is through humor.

Do yourself a favour and start to laugh at life and its little quirks and do not for a moment think that someone who laughs at life does not have a heart filled with compassion. We do what is needed with a twinkle in the eye and a tear in the heart.

And lady - you don't have an idea what evil really is. I have witnessed it up close and personal so don't call me that.

RE: ELECTION TIME SOON ..WHAT MAKES A GOOD SOCIALIST?..COMMUNIST?.. CAPITALIST/ CONSERVATIVE / REPUBLICA

I rest my case.

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

You might also have missed it but we were joking with Gilly. Go outside smell the air and be happy that life is treating you so well. A good laugh at something, someone or even yourself works wonders for a sour disposition

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

They are not the only ones being murdered as we speak. Some of us comes from countries where a sense of humor keeps you alive if not unharmed.

RE: should the buddist monks of burma be nominated for a mobile peace prize ?

Did they run that fast?
