I always saw culture as a way of life that has evolved to make use of resources, thoughts and information gathered and exercised for a particular Community. The same culture may not transfer to another People where different needs and ideals have evolved.
Art may work anywhere and everywhere if it doesn't offend our culture and it is timeless. Culture evolves and this is why so many people try to relive it or adopt it because they are often fearful of losing it. In this context I believe we could just enjoy it the way we do art but as a way of life culture can be destructive as can religion when stuck in a time warp and reason isn't part of a particular culture.
To be remembered and history are after life so do not answer what is the meaning of life?
Procreating as all living things but our destinies are often our choices and fate is our luck. This is why we endeavour to educate in order to make the very best of what we have.
So could it be Education that is our purpose and our resolve has yet to come?
Age 6 and my sister 4 we were driven, by several farmboys, into a grain store and barricaded in. It was some time before they released us. I can't bear confined spaces now and when my mum blocked me from getting out of my bedroom I threatened to jump out of the window. At the very least I would have smashed it.
I learnt it when I was 5yrs old from an elderly neighbour. I've never had to use it. I have a friend who is deaf/blind and still not used it. None of his family learnt it.
It is great to learn and I would re learn if I thought I'd be able to use it.
Of course this doesn't appl;y to all cyclists but everytime I see a near miss involving a silly cyclist and a motor vehicle I think, 'don't they realise that if they'd been killed that motorist has to live with that!'
Also a cyclist travelling in excess of 30mph on a down hill stretch where todlers are walking. Don't they realise that they would have to live with having hit that child.
KN I sold one a couple of years ago and intended replacing it. I too hope to buy one this year and I'm quite lucky where I live. We have a fantastic cycle path network.
