Al, I'll have to get back to you tomorrow, hon.... Nose stuffed up, in the middle of another phone call, haven't even read your post properly..... Night Trish and Al both
Al, I do actually agree with alot of the comments you make. The ones that get me 'riled' involve subjective categorizations such as 'evil', 'not civilised', 'the slower evolution of SOME man'....... I do know how bad it is out there, but I just don't necessarily regard this new-found 'political correctness' of the western world anythiing to boast or be proud of.We are totally part of the problem, imho....
Sorry for delay between posts.People keep phoning.
The 'bad' imo, are in the minority and belong to all nations around the world. They can afford the violence/war (and are usually in a position to benefit from it).
The 'good' are most of us poor everyday losers, all over the world, who CAN'T afford to see our lives messed up beyond recognition by violence/war.
I always thought ALL countries fell back on a civilisation and were therefore civilised, Al. People's culture/beliefs/history/civilisation are part of their identity and imo, deserve to be respected. And the insane resentment/hatred some populations feel for others is no better or worse than the paranoid fear that others feel for them......
'The ones committing atrocities around the world today....' (I'm assuming you're not talking about the US?).....are sometimes countries that have their resentful backs up against the wall and in no position to afford the luxury of 'diplomacy' (requests to bend over NOW, in-your-face manipulation and insults).
Trish, about your disposable toaster.... Have you seen 'the story of stuff'? If not, Google it. It's a video that goes for about 20 mins (kinda long,I know) but everyone that has seen it has thought it was excellent.....
Of course we have the right to defend ourselves and no, I don't think we should ever stand back and allow something we believe to be wrong continue....especially when it's in our face and obvious and we can do something about it. I just don't believe everything is always cut and dry and when it is difficult to know who or what is 'evil' or 'good' (I myself know I'm a bit of both), I just don't believe gunning down populations is a solution or the right thing to do...
Always like to read your posts, btw Daniel......you're cool. And I often feel the same way about you too, Trish
I don't find it as easy as some to separate the populations of the earth into orcs and elves...
And I don't agree with this constant reference to 'evil'.It takes the humanity away from a situation and I don't think we can ever afford to forget that whatever our confused actions and our frightened reactions, we as a race remain human.....we suffer, we bleed, we die....I thought that WAS reality.
Looks like human lives are either irrelevant to you lot,or totally disposable, like everything else in our world.
So yeah!!
Why not?
Go for it!!!
The fact that some people are in a position to go all around the world, look into all those eyes and still feel this way just makes me ,personally. Hatred without understanding or any willingness to understand makes me sick.
It's a pity John Lennon's name had to come up in this thread.I have a feeling, having read it all from page 1 that he would have been sick at about 80% of it.... Who wrote Let It Be?
I don't know..... Sometimes it feels like the world is more and more cynical.
People don't believe in people anymore. They believe in their stuff.Their posessions...
In my late 20s - early 30s I did alot of volunteer work for migrant communities and their children. I was pretty much seen as some kind of loser.....desperate.....alone......of no value....lost loser....... by the very people I was trying to help.
I was in PRAGUE in October.Very black old stone buildings and very black statues. How difficult/expensive is it to clean them. Hope it's not impossible.....
I stopped wearing short (never frilly, just straight black) skirts about 7 years ago when I realised I only wore them when I was p---ed off and in a mood to kick some butt.... Interesting to note maybe that I ALWAYS got treated with more 'consideration' by men when I did wear them, everywhere from busses to cafes...... I'm one of those people whose weight bounces up and down like crazy.I can be 5kg underweight or 5kg overweight (which is what I am now).Needless to say,men pay more attention when my women friends are getting worried about me and offering to cook me some food....what is it about bones that turns you guys on, anyway...?
Which tango? Ballroom or Argentine? 'Cause Argentine is the ultimate in cooperation....In the ballroom tango they're really only pretending to be annoyed at each other.......they'd kill each other (bad accidents) if they weren't well synchronised.
It's kinda weird but I was thinking of starting a similar thread just today. I dance.....took it up almost by accident...NEVER saw myself as a dancer....but I actually am.
There's something so refreshingly.....can't think of the word..... You learn to follow/lead as well as you can and from there on there's some kind of unspoken agreement of cooperation......it's simple and clean of all the stuff that makes many man/woman relationships not so good, you know? It's beautiful.........
....to heaven I'm in heaven And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak And I seem to find the happiness I seek When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.....''
Fred and Ginger in 'Top Hat'? Ginger dancing in her angel's feather dress. Youtube it......it's heaven........
I found 'Bridge Over Troybled Waters' by Aretha Franklin on Limewire a few weeks back.... Loved the arrangements........always love Aretha.
Otherwise, staying with the soul, San and Dave 'Soothe Me Baby,Soothe Me'.OTIS used to complain about not being able to follow 'the f--ckers' on stage......
But actually my music's a bit '80-year-old schizophrenic' too.... Hi Vonnie Hi jbibiza Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin duets CD is one of my favourites..
RE: Can you choose who you love?
I think we always choose. It's just that sometimes we make good choices and sometimes our choices are not-so-good.......
