good advice, i would add don't let them be alone. being all alone with your thoughts can be tormenting. giving them space by helping out with things, and being there is the best medicine for the immediate future. it means so much more than flowers or cards, they will get enough of those.
as someone who has been in a similar situation myself, i can maybe offer some insight, rather not post it all on here but feel free to contact me if you need help. it's hard to understand what he is going through unless you have gone through it yourself, his world just stopped spinning, yet the rest of the world keeps on keeping on, it is an awful and lost feeling. you are doing the right thing, just be there, people deal with things differently, but in my own opinion try not to bring it up too much, let him come to you if he needs to reach out, your hand will be there, and shoulder ready to support and soak up some of those tears. One thing people use to say a lot to me after my brother took his life was "don't worry it will get easier with time," i use to hate that, it's been years and it never gets easier, you just get use to it. (i wouldn't tell him that though) so maybe protect him from outsiders, you know those people who only come around when things are good or bad, sometimes their attempts to help make things worse. just my humble opinion, but like i said everyone is different. maybe try to get his mind off of it, if even for a minute (though that's not really possible) humor can be very therapeutic for some, but don't go overboard, just try to get a smile. help him get back to some form of "normalcy" (whatever that may be) and back into his old routine. you can really get in a rutt over something as tragic as this, i know. others motives are hard to interperate, props to skybow for her thorough attempt at understanding this nearly ununderstandable subject. i think it depends on which group of people we are looking at, i think their are varying views. My honest opinion why it is such an important issue to polititions is because jewish americans tend to be a highly active voting block, and pandering is abound in politics. then there is the extremeist christian wackos who believe that they have to preserve isreal so when jesus comes back during armageddon he can let them have it. then there are several shades of grey in between, wether it be to preserve the sovergnty of Isreal for the Jewish people after what happened to them during the holocost (a noble notion), orto have an allie in region not so friendly to us from where we can launch military operations (not so noble). There are many other reasons one could give for the support of isreal, i however am no expert and just stumbled upon this post, skimmed it a bit and rattled off a few ideas. But as far as the polititians are concerned i think their after votes, just my uneducated opinion.
I admit i havn't read the rest of the responses, just thought i'd post. Tears are just fears with nowhere to go, and we are what we are, same as you, no more no less.
Good advice. Too many of us are either trying to live in the past or the future, and sometimes forget about today and the simple things we can do to make it better.
I saw some dude on c-span who says "don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognize as food" that seems logical to me, though hard to do in todays grocery stores.
I think it's time for our "leaders" to be the first boots on the ground if they feel there is reason enough to go to war. If they think it is justifiable to send our men and women off to die they should lead the way. As far as would I fight, no I'm a pacifist, there must be a better way than war. (I'm a dreamer too)
In my opinion, heaven and/or religion is a coping mechanism, a way for humans to rationalize the unrationilazable (not a word I know). Hell on the other hand was and is a tool used by organized religions to control groups of people through fear. No offense to anyone who is religious, to each their own, it's just my opinion.
