The self, free will, and consciousness

Well a lot of posters here do seem to be in need of anger management advice when you've finished with them, but I'm not sure you are the one they would turn to for help with it. laugh

Do you get a kick out of annoying people?

Oh no, I just tuck my trousers into my socks.

Do you get a kick out of annoying people?

But I've noticed you don't impose such limits on yourself when it comes to being irritating, Fargo. smile

Why do we still need the word “Atheist”?

That is really what I'm getting at; the word does imply an opposition to theistic belief. But some people don't even consider the question of God's existence worthy of denying. It is not an act of denial, or opposition, it is merely an absence of taking it into consideration. It is for that reason that I don't like the word.

Why do we still need the word “Atheist”?

Well I can't argue with razor sharp logic of that calibre, Fargo. smile

Why do we still need the word “Atheist”?

It would have been interesting to have heard your reason for that opinion.

The self, free will, and consciousness

What a wonderful thing to say. I'm feeling better already. smile wine

The self, free will, and consciousness

You are probably right, bod.

The self, free will, and consciousness

Actually, causing concern seems the only thing I have any talent for.

I'm okay, don't worry about me, but I really do appreciate your concern. hug

Should we all love one another?

I am a very open person.

The self, free will, and consciousness

But what? Nothing seems to have any point. I mean what is there that's worth putting any effort into?

But don't be alarmed, I am probably making it sound worse than it is.

The self, free will, and consciousness

Well no, and I think that's the problem. If I could be more specific, at least I would have a starting point. confused

I need a purpose in life, I think. The Universe just doesn't seem to have a use for me. sigh

The self, free will, and consciousness

I find life incredibly frustrating, but I don't know why. dunno

Should we all love one another?

Open your heart. heart beating

The self, free will, and consciousness

Well something's gone wrong somewhere, and my head just seems like the obvious place to start looking for the problem. hmmm

Should we all love one another?

I don't think I'm in any mortal danger then. smile

The self, free will, and consciousness

And don't go thinking I didn't notice your little edit in quoting me. smile

The self, free will, and consciousness

Actually, on this occasion, I am forced to totally agree with you.

The self, free will, and consciousness

The Christian view is just one of many, and I don't see any reason to take it into account when we are trying to figure out what free will is.

The self, free will, and consciousness

I'm sorry, BB, I know I say a lot of things I shouldn't. But you are always trying to educate me, and it feels patronising, and it makes me a bit snappy.

sad flower

Should we all love one another?

That's such a relief, because I hadn't a clue how I was going to manage it. wine

The self, free will, and consciousness

You should know, you're the biggest catch I've had in a long time.

The self, free will, and consciousness

Don't get excited, BB, I'm not "following" it, I just find it interesting. I'll continue along my own path, if you don't mind. smile

I find this woman very easy to listen to, even though I don't understand a lot of what she is saying. It relates to a few things that have been talked about here recently, so I thought it might be of interest.

RE: What is Cancel Culture?

Watch out, gal, there's a leftie behind you. Boo! uh oh

Do you get a kick out of annoying people?

No, a small pack of circlips that I ordered from Amazon just happened to arrive while I was trying to think of a user name to create my account with. I wish there were more to it than that, but there ain't. sigh

RE: What is Cancel Culture?

If that is your idea of a reasonable attitude, and there are many more like you, God bless help America. laugh

RE: What is Cancel Culture?

This is my point. Look how you react as soon as the word "left" is mentioned. dunno

RE: What is Cancel Culture?

I really think this preoccupation with "the left" is one of the most worrying things we need to think about. It seems to be worst in the USA, but it is rapidly taking hold everywhere. It wouldn't matter how sensible or beneficial an idea might be, as soon as there is a suspicion that there is anything even slightly "left" about it, it goes straight out the window.
