Yes, it happened everywhere on the new continent. When Diego de Almagro was on his way to Chile from the north,in the 1530s, he ordered to chop off the feet of some natives, to subdue the originary inhabitants by terror...
Second half of the 19th century. The southernmost region, Tierra del Fuego, Chile. "Hunters" are paid in pounds sterling for each pair of human ears they hand in. Reasons? The native people(Onas, or Selknam) lived off guanacos, a kind of camelid. The land had been settled by sheep farming companies and the natives thought sheep were a kind of white guanacos. Consequently, the Onas started to kill them to eat... and were wiped out...
Some pple have even denied the massive killings ever happened!
But fortunately, although history tends to be just what is conveniently and politically correctly written, there are many who make an effort so that what happened is never forgotten. Being humbly aware of the past will help us build a healthier, better future, at least it`s what I believe. Thanks for listening and thanks for the thread.
You are surely less shy after you posted this message! You took the step and that requires courage, doesn´t it. And do not worry too much about what others think of you. It`s your own opinion that matters. That, and acting right. Believe me.
I`d just suggest to keep posting and contacting ppl.
