Daddy won a radio Tuned it to a country show I was rockin' in the cradle To the cryin' of a steel guitar Mama used to sing to me Taught me that sweet harmony Now she worries 'cause she never thought I'd ever really take it this far
Singin' in the bars Chasin' that neon rainbow Livin' that honky tonk dream All I've ever wanted Was to pick this guitar and sing Just tryin' to be somebody Just wanna be heard and seen
Chasin' that neon rainbow Livin' that honky tonk dream
An atlas and a coffee cup Five pickers in an old Dodge truck Headin' down to Houston For a show on Saturday night This overhead is killin' me Half the time I sing for free But when the crowd's into it Lord it makes this thing I'm doing seem right Standin in the spotlight
Chorus
Daddy's got a radio He won it thirty years ago He said "Son I just know we're gonna hear you singin' on it someday" I made it up to Music Row But Lordy don't the wheels turn slow Still I wouldn't trade a minute And I wouldn't have it any other way Just show me to the stage
Chorus
I'm chasin' that neon rainbow Livin' that honky tonk dream
--Spoken: "The future. Captain's log, stardate two thousand and something."
We're seven years from the millenium That's a science fiction fact Stanley Kubrick and his buddy HAL Now don't look that abstract So I'll put on my Bob Marley tape And practice what I preach Get Jah lost in the reggae mon As I walk along the beach Stay in touch with my insanity really is the only way Its a jungle out there kiddies Have a very fruitful day Hey.
Chorus: Fruitcakes in the kitchen (Fruitcakes in the kitchen) Fruitcakes on the street (Fruitcakes on the street) Struttin' naked through the crosswalk In the middle of the week Half-baked cookies in the oven (Cookies in the oven) Half-baked people on the bus (People on the bus) There's a little bit of fruitcake left in everyone of us
--Spoken: "That's right, you too. Yeah those crumbs are spread all around this universe. I've seen fruitcakes. I saw this guy in Santa Monica rollerskate naked through the crosswalk. Down in New Orleans in the French market there are fruitcakes like you cannot believe. New York, forget it. Fruitcake city. Down island, we've got fruitcakes. Spread them crumbs around. That's right, we want 'em around. Keep bakin' baby. Keep bakin'."
She used to be my only enemy and never let me be free Catching me in places that I knew I should'nt be Every other day I crossed the line I didn't mean to be so bad I never thought you would become the friend I never had Back then I didn't know why Why you were misunderstood So now I see through your eyes All that you did was love Mama I love you.Mama I care Mama I love you . Mama my friend. You're my friend I didn't want to hear it then but I'm not ashamed to say it now Every little thing you said and did was right for me I had a lot of to think about, about the way I usedto be Never had a sense of my responsibility Back then I didn't know why Why you were misunderstood So now I see through your eyes, all that you did was love Mama, I love you. Mama, I care Mama, I love you. Mama ,my friend. You're my friend But now I'm sure I know why, Why you were misunderstood So now I see through your eyes All I can give you is love is love Mama I love you. Mama, I care Mama, I love you. Mama, my friend,You're my friend Mama, I love you, Mama ,I care Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend, You're my friend
(I rekindled my friendship with someone I considered a Mother to me and I hadn't spoken to her in over 10 years. She told me that she has thought of me the last ten years and wondered what had happened to me. I am going to see her some time this year. I dedicate this song to her.)
Malone: You said you wanted to get Capone. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I'm saying is, what are you prepared to do? Ness: Anything within the law. Malone: And *then* what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they're not gonna give up the fight, until one of you is dead. Ness: I want to get Capone! I don't know how to do it. Malone: You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal? Ness: I have sworn to capture this man with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so. Malone: Well, the Lord hates a coward. [jabs Ness with his hand, and Ness shakes it] Malone: Do you know what a blood oath is, Mr. Ness? Ness: Yes. Malone: Good, 'cause you just took one.
Same Movie:
Capone: A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiams... What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles.Part of one big team. Bats himself the live-long day, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and so on. If his team don't field... what is he? You follow me? No one. Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? I'm goin' out there for myself. But... I get nowhere unless the team wins. Hoods: Team! [Capone beats one of the men to death with a baseball bat]
It's been a quarter of a century now, people, since the Rebels won the day They destroyed that evil empire and the galaxy was saved Han Solo, Luke, Leia, Lando -- they're the heroes we all recall But let's not forget about their big-hearted friends who are only one meter tall
I'm talking about the Ewoks They were more than just cute, cuddly bears Let's give some credit to the Ewoks Without their help, the Alliance didn't have a prayer.
I was surfin' the Star Wars message boards and Lord, I was shocked to read All the haters puttin' down the Ewoks -- they say they ruined the first trilogy Well, they may have been added for the children and they may have been comic relief And it may not make sense that they could beat Stormtroopers with such primitive weaponry
But why you hatin' on the Ewoks? Tell me what did they ever do to you? Where's the love for the Ewoks? Let's give it up 'cause it's long overdue (clap your hands now)
EWOKS -- they're tiny warriors EWOKS -- they fought so bravely EWOKS -- livin' like the Amish EWOKS, EWOKS
(take it Billy Dee...)
After Princess Leia crashed her Speederbike, who had our sister's back? (the Ewoks!) And who was it that led the Rebels to the bunker backdoor for their sneak attack? (the Ewoks!) And at the end of Act 2 when all was lookin' bad, who set those captured Rebels free (the Ewoks!) Can somebody remind me who throws the hottest treetop parties in the galaxy? You know he's talking about the Ewoks They've still got it goin' on after twenty-five years Ewoks! Sing it loud so all those haters can hear
EWOKS -- they're inspirational EWOKS -- they sold so many toys EWOKS -- a yub-nub now EWOKS, EWOKS
It's a jungle out there Disorder and confusion everywhere No one seems to care Well I do Hey, who's in charge here? It's a jungle out there Poison in the very air we breathe Do you know what's in the water that you drink? Well I do, and it's amazing People think I'm crazy, 'cause I worry all the time If you paid attention, you'd be worried too You better pay attention Or this world we love so much might just kill you I could be wrong now, but I don't think so! 'Cause there's a jungle out there. It's a jungle out there.
He turned; he spurred to the west; he did not know she stood bowed, with her head o'er the musket, drenched with her own red blood! Not till the dawn he heard it; his face grew grey to hear How Bess, the landlord's daughter, the landlord's black-eyed daughter, Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.
And back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs in the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, And he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat.
Still of a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees, When the moon is a ghostly galleon, tossed upon the cloudy seas, When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor, A highwayman comes riding, riding, riding, A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.
The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon the cloudy seas The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor And the highwayman came riding, riding, riding, The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.
He'd a French cocked hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin, A coat of claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin; They fitted with never a wrinkle; his boots were up to the thigh! And he rode with a jewelled twinkle, His pistol butts a-twinkle, His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.
Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark innyard, And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred; He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there But the landlord's black-eyed daughter, Bess, the landlord's daughter, Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.
"One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I'm after a prize tonight, But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light; Yet if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day, Then look for me by the moonlight, watch for me by the moonlight, I'll come to thee by the moonlight, though hell shall bar the way.
He rose upright in the stirrups; he scarce could reach her hand But she loosened her hair in the casement! His face burnt like a brand As the black cascade of the perfume came tumbling over his breast; And he kissed its waves in the moonlight, (Oh, sweet waves in the moonlight!) He tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west.
He did not come at the dawning; he did not come at noon, And out of the tawny sunset, before the rise o' the moon, When the road was a gypsy's ribbon, looping the purple moor, A red-coat troop came marching, marching, marching King George's men came marching, up to the old inn-door.
They said no word to the landlord, they drank his ale instead, But they gagged his daughter and bound her to the foot of her narrow bed; Two of them knelt at the casement, with muskets at their side! there was death at every window, hell at one dark window; For Bess could see, through the casement, The road that he would ride.
They had tied her up to attention, with many a sni**ering jest; They had bound a musket beside her, with the barrel beneath her breast! "now keep good watch!" And they kissed her. She heard the dead man say "Look for me by the moonlight, watch for me by the moonlight I'll come to thee by the moonlight, though hell shall bar the way!"
She twisted her hands behind her, but all the knots held good! She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood! They stretched and strained in the darkness and the hours crawled by like years! Till, now, on the stroke of midnight, cold, on the stroke of midnight, The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!
Tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horses hoofs ring clear Tlot-tlot, in the distance! Were they deaf that they did not hear? Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill, The highwayman came riding, riding, riding! The red-coats looked to their priming! She stood up straight and still!
Tlot in the frosty silence! Tlot, in the echoing night! Nearer he came and nearer! Her face was like a light! Her eyes grew wide for a moment! She drew one last deep breath, Then her finger moved in the moonlight, her musket shattered the moonlight, Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him with her death.
O bonny Portmore, I am sorry to see Such a woeful destruction of your ornament tree. For it stood on your shore for many's the long day Till the long boats from Antrim came to float it away.
O bonny Portmore, you shine where you stand. And the more I think on you the more I think long If I had you now as I had once before, All the Lords in Old England would not purchase Portmore.
All the birds in the forest, they bitterly weep Sighing, "Where shall we shelter, where shall we sleep?" For the Oak and the Ash tree are all cutten down, And the walls of bonny Portmore are all down to the ground.
O bonny Portmore, you shine where you stand. And the more I think on you the more I think long If I had you now as I had once before All the Lords of Old England would not purchase Portmore.
A child arrived just the other day, He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away. And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew, He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad. You know I'm gonna be like you."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then."
My son turned ten just the other day. He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play. Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today, I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok." And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed, Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then."
Well, he came from college just the other day, So much like a man I just had to say, "Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?" He shook his head, and he said with a smile, "What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys. See you later. Can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then."
I've long since retired and my son's moved away. I called him up just the other day. I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time. You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu, But it's sure nice talking to you, dad. It's been sure nice talking to you." And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, He'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me.
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then."
One of my unselfish moments was about two years ago, I was traveling to Dallas for a class for my police department.
During my travel, it was one of the worst snow/ice storms they had seen in a long time. I noticed on the freeway ahead of me a car spin out of control and hit a guardrail on a bridge, the car was going slow enough that it just bounced like a pinball.
Once it stopped, I pulled off on the side of the road, grabbed my police jacket and went to assist. My gf at the time called 911 for me.
When I got to the car, I could tell the airbag deployed and the driver was semi-conscience. Her daughter was in the back seat with her little brother who was in a car seat. They were quite awake and responsive. I talked to them to keep thier spirits up and was able to get the mom to be somewhat responsive to my words. It was only a few minutes until everyone showed up, but it seemed longer. The EMS guys were inpressed that I stopped for the accident and was assisting them getting thier gear out of the ambulance.
To this day, I wonder about that woman and always wondered how she is and her family. I still don't remember her name.
One thing that did bother me about the whole accident was that it was a busy freeway and no one stopped to see if I needed an extra hand. That fustrated me more then anything else.
I used to hand write letters or little notes on certain days and my gf at the time would write her letters or notes on opposite days. That way you had the anticipation of receiving something in mail besides bills.
I have done the scented clothing or blanket, it does work.
I would leave emails with my favorite songs attached to it, so she could download and listen and think about me.
I also leave notes on ym, just so she knows I am thinking of her.
I have done other stuff in the past, but this is all I can think of at the moment.
RE: What would you put in a TIKI LOUNGE if you had one?
Lots of Jimmy Buffett music playing, especially the Tiki Bar is open song.
