I moved from Ontario to Alberta and I just adore the place. It's easy to get around and not very crowded at all. Better job market in Alberta as opposed to B.C. If you can stand the cold (-20C to -30C in the winter) then Alberta is for you. If you are into rain(which you would be in Ireland) then B.C. is for you. Alberta generally has sunny skies most of the time as we are in a desert climate so there isn't too much moisture. British Columbia has a lot of cloudy skies for much of the winter time and it is not as easy to get around there as it it in Alberta.
Keep lurking but don't leave. When forums get stupid you just need to get out of them and go somewhere else. There are lots of them around. That's what I do. I think I would miss my dose of CS.
