hey shell - i still dont have any dates. gathering some interests so to speak. maybe we can do a simultaneous party here in melbourne and there in qld? - not sure.
the funds will go to a fledgling not for profit agency overseas. i just got back from volunteering there for 5 weeks at a marine sanctuary teaching primary school kids in the pacific islands about marine conservation. i know its not a bit cause like cancer, world peace etc.. but i have a strong affection for the sea and children.
Just a thought.. I am thinking of organising one for a cause I wholehearted support however, just checking the temperature as to the level or interest. Thanks ya'll!!!
yes people will die. and yes people will also work (if there is work to be had) for their survival. personally, i wouldnt want to stop the aid, but i would like to get rid of the corrupted entities who take what is not for them to take.
never say never my young padawan. and yes, i agree. we have such homelessness etc problems at home too. and i can understand the frustration that we give and give and yet we have our own problems in the homefront which we cant seem to handle either.
why would social entrepreneurship be a band aid? when it will actually generate much needed finances, jobs and will recycle the money that was given as aid? do you even know how that works?
i know that most of you are against aid, and yes i can understand the frustration of giving and giving and not getting a measurable result but as i said before, educating is the key. it will not be instant, i must admit but there will be change.
aid can be good if put to good use.. maybe start with ceo's of aid orgs who drive around in luxury cars. i know that for a fact. worked in one. too disillusioned now. gah!
there's always a solution to it. im not brilliant enough to come up with one but that's what brilliant minds like you are there for. the palaces will sell. i can tell you that. and so will the mercs and the beamers. Social Entrepreneurship. that's the go,i reckon.
and youre the one who missed my point. my point is to create more system to ensure that aid goes to where it should go (rather than create palaces). i am not suggesting a sudden change, far from it. change is never an instant thing.
if they dont then these foreign aid orgs should ensure they have such a system. otherwise we would be forever giving aid. it should be sustainable. not just a band aid.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
totally agree, its not just in africa. its the people in power who siphons our aid. the 6 palaces for each wife of this king in that african country could help. grrr!
Would anyone be interested in a get together for charity?
