RE: Do women or men cause more damage/troube while drunk/off their heads?

I think men do... booze and testosterone combined... yeah...

RE: Obama's unpopularity is soaring.

On second thought... we are bankrupt, but fortunately the rest of the world believed that with Obama things would change and there was sufficient confidence in the Dollar...

RE: Obama's unpopularity is soaring.

Quite true. Americans have a short memory span. It was a bit of a no-brainer that when Bush got elected, there'd be a war and that following his administration, we'd have problems.

I sometimes wonder where we'd be at if McCain had been elected. Probably bankrupt and manufacturing textiles to export to China rolling on the floor laughing

I have my gripes about Obama, but to blame him for the economic problems, the bail-outs (Bush initiated those for the banks and GM) and the deficits is just ridiculous.

Word to describe Parents who lost their Children

Hi Lucy,

Frequency of usage... ahaaaa idea

so possibly there existed a word once, but it became forgotten? hmm

Thank you :-)

Word to describe Parents who lost their Children

Of course not. I cannot even imagine what that must be like, but I am not arguing the pain or the emotional aspect of the loss of a child, you know. It's more like... why don't we have a word for it? 100 years ago, when living conditions were tough, children died all the time due to illness, malnutrition, etc.

In fact, was it not the case that children were considered property at one point, sort of like women?

Word to describe Parents who lost their Children

So there is no word for this status in the English language. There is also none in German or French. I believe there is one in Hebrew (schakul). I do not know about other languages/cultures... do you?

Why is this so? Any ideas? I read that the event is so tragic that it shouldn't be talked about, but I find that explanation a bit lame and unsatisfactory.

Why do you think we do not have a name for parents who lost their children?

Can you think of a suitable word to describe that status? Perhaps we could invent a new word nerd typing rollers smoking

RE: What music are you listening too now!

8 am here and just listening to the news sigh

RE: Bills

I just pay a lump sum. Done.

Buuuut, my landlady keeps bugging me all the time whining how the heating is so expensive, bla bla and I tell her to put it in writing and amend the contract and give me the option to move out, which she won't do because she knows that she makes more with me living here than to take in another tenant... greedy old witch... very mad .... err.... what was the question again? laugh

RE: hi

Prove it tongue laugh

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. That was just too beautiful to pass up laugh

RE: hi

Yeah great... rub it in tongue moping

RE: What is a good safe age to buy a child a 4 wheeler?

RE: Marriages come & go.......

Sadly, these days the two really are synonyms. frog

RE: GREETINGS TO ALL,

RE: Young Ladies , which car do you like ?

Given the choices.. hmm either the Nissan or the Audi.

RE: Is USA still a model country in the world?

Is it a model country? Absolutely not, but for some countries it seems to be a model of how to suck more money out of ordinary people. So who's worse? The one who does the dirty, or the one who copies the dirty?

Still, there are some good aspects to the US. The flexibility of the financial system is like no other in the world. Before someone says something about the financial crisis... keep in mind that the European banks were not forced to buy those instruments that got them into trouble).

There is a LOT less bureaucracy in the US when it comes to business than in any EU country.

Looking at it in comparison to Russia or China, I still prefer the US. At least there, I don't have to worry about being thrown in jail for voicing my opinion ... hmm.... on second thought, I might soon get thrown in jail for lighting a cigarette...

long story short.. there is no perfect system and there is no model ... everything is done by consensus of those who have power (aka the rich)... and it doesn't matter where on the planet you live. That bit is the same everywhere.

RE: Was this Wrong of me?

Little late to be asking the question, I think. Are you looking to put yourself on a guilt trip? Honestly, forget it. It's history. Nothing you can do to change the past. Move on and be wiser next time around before you say "I do".

RE: Are men 55-70 non-existent on this site?

I get mail from guys in that age group, even though I am not interested in them. In fact, I tell them to look for something closer to their own age, but you know how it is.. no fool like an old fool doh

... and before s'one calls me an old fool.. I'd never date someone 8+ years my junior.

RE: Ode To Heather Locklear

wow

jaw drop

RE: Israel: War = Expansion

Here, the news reported that the US basically got sick of the "stubborness" displayed by Israel. Netanyahu was unable to convince his right-wing fellow party members to prolong the negotiations and all efforts by the US Administration to continue to broker a deal about the settlements thus went up in smoke. The US then basically said... waste of time, we're out. Can't blame them, to be honest.

Quite frankly, I begin to wonder why it is that we pay so much in foreign aid, give favored nation status and many other perks to Israel if they basically tell us to go stuff ourselves.

RE: He asked me to marry him

Hannibal took elephants across the alps... never underestimate a Serb with a camel! laugh

RE: He asked me to marry him

Smooth operator! laugh

RE: Long distance. He hesitates. Should I give him deadline?

My advice would be not to give him a deadline. He will use it against you and say that he does not like to be blackmailed.

It sounds like he is indecisive and unless you are proactive, chances are nothing will happen for a long time.

What exactly is it that he is working on? A fiance visa? Ask him the progress and status of things. Sounds to me like he's doing nothing, to be honest.

If I were in your shoes, I would brace myself that this is not going anywhere. Visas can take a long time, but least he could do is keep you updated on the paperwork IF that is what this is about. Something tells me that he is shopping around for someone else and is letting things fizzle out, but I may be wrong...

RE: He asked me to marry him

Dear... I have been asked whether we have telephones. I usually say "Where there is internet..." and a few other choice questions. Believe me when I tell you that it did not come as much of a surprise to be asked about the camel.

RE: He asked me to marry him

They have some water buffalo over in Serbia and some african cows/bulls.. whatever.. the black ones with the big horns... I forgot what they're called now .. sorry.. laughing myself silly here rolling on the floor laughing

RE: He asked me to marry him

There's only one airport in Sarajevo. Just tell me the date and time of your arrival and I will saddle the dromedar and pick you up. I am a terrific hostess. laugh

Would you believe me if I tell you that on another website some clown asked me whether there are camels in Bosnia? I kid you not.

RE: He asked me to marry him

Ah.. I had a couple of local guys ask me also. In exchange for a ticket out and an opportunity elsewhere, they are more than happy to provide quality company to this old lady (hack, cough) laugh

I figure in about 20 years, when I am really desperate, I will come back here and buy myself one of those young spuds laugh I must say though that there are some really good looking guys around here.. wow... maybe I should mull this over again.. laugh

RE: Germany man

Yes, of course. This guy is clearly a liar. If at least he flew back off and on or kept a residence in Germany or something to lend some credibility to his claim, then okay, but it does not seem to be the case. I have a feeling the guy is just playing around online and is wasting other peoples' time.

The situation you describe with your nephew is exactly what I was talking about. These things can happen, but they can easily be explained.

RE: Germany man

laugh He's 24 now and on his own. The phrase I hear most often today is: "Mamma, ist noch Geld auf dem Konto?" laugh
