My daughter had one at 6,but she had a cousin to teach her how to ride it,and safety rules. They had a safe place to ride and helmets,it teaches them motor skills and is a lot of fun for the child, but not so much for the worrying parent. They come in all sizes, ask the sales man which one is right for your child.
Depends on the child. Some have more practical skills than others.I wouldnt suggest anything over 50cc anyway, and you could have that restricted to make it slower. As said, instruction by a qualified person, supervision and on private ground are a good idea.
See that is what I am worried about I know someone with a very hyper 7 year old that is his big christmas. He is your true 100% boy hunting, fishing, enjoys destroying anything he gets his hands on just to see if it breaks. I am so worried about him I think of him as the son I dont have. His parents got MAD when I questioned if he was old enough to handle something like that.

Sadly, you could be right. However, its thier child, and you are struggling to do anything about it.
GingerBe: It depends on what stage in life you wish them to start learning to take chances with their lives.
Accidents happen. Children are not capable for being responsible for their own lives. They are certainly no good at risk assessment.
I have personally never bought my children anything, before the age of 20, that might even carry the mildest risk of accidentally killing themselves.
I never cared what their friends had, nor my neighbours, or any other sheep who hadn't a clue how to keep their kids safe.
My daughter which is 8 found out he was getting one and started begging for one. I told her maybe in another year or two. I told her I loved her to much to give her something she could put her in the hospital.

Don't need a license but minimum age seems to be 16 (when riding alone). Seems to vary a bit down to age 14. Children under the age of 14 are not allowed to drive alone, but again there is no set rule for off roading. NO one is allowed on public roads. Though all riders have to wear a proper helmet for ATVing. Girls should make sure their hair is not too long as to get caught in any moving part of ATV. Really is seems to be ride at your own risk. The highest % of accidents (fatal and not fatal)are committed by boys of the age 14 to 16. Education and supervision seem to be in order especially for young children.
WELL IT DEFINITELY DEPENDS ON THE CHILDS AGE IN THERE MIND AND WHAT SIZE THE 4 WHEELER IS,,,BUT STILL IT CAN BE LIKE A GUN IF NOT TREATED OR RESPECTED AS SOMETHING THAT COULD HURT YOU. The subject header makes it look like this thread could be titled "what's a good age to buy a child" ... not sure if that question is easier or more difficult to answer.

O!Spirits! It is not going to end good.
You cannot do nothing if his parents are so firm about it.
But you could talk to a child and show him pictures of victims of 4 weeldriving. Maybe it will make him to re-think.
On the other hand we have a friend whose children a 9 years old girl and 12 years old boy are very good in riding mini dirt moto cycles and 4 wheelers and they do it for a few years already.
BUT their father is good at it too and he drilled them well .. they were constantly supervised until they became comfortable with bikes and 4 wheelers.
