RE: photo,s

You contacted me some time ago, when I had a photo up, and I politely declined.

RE: photo,s

I have had my photo up here, and also have it on another site. I get far more mail with a photo. However, what I have found is that the men who contact when I don't have a photo up are more likely to have read my profile and are responding to the person rather than the photo, so it ends up being a situation of quality over quantity.

RE: photo,s

When a man contacts me and we start conversing, I make sure he sees a photo of me, whether he asks for it or not. I have a specific reason why I don't have a photo up, but it has nothing to do with trying to hide anything to be deceptive in anyway.

RE: "Americans" Lets have some feedback from eveyone!

Historically, yes, it has happened that way. But it has also happened slowly, over time. For examply, the British Empire was not built in a day. Neither was the Roman Empire. I don't believe, given the situation with the weaponry we have nowadays that there will be a sudden, overwhelming shift in world power ever again.

RE: Country Bashing..

I tell anyone who contacts me. Sorry Robert, but I do not get this kind of reaction from men. They have no problem with it. They understand what my point is. I don't start off a relationship with anyone lying about anything. In any case, you of all people are in absolutely no position to chastise me about anything.

RE: Country Bashing..

oops....men in my age range....

RE: Country Bashing..

There are approximately 6 English speaking men on CS in Austria. I get lonely.....sigh

RE: Country Bashing..

Maybe also we could ignore the troll 's ...

RE: Country Bashing..

How about changing this thread to what is good in each country? I live in Austria: It's quite pretty, very clean and organized, and has good music. Also, we are very green here--lots of recycling and awareness of limited resources. It isn't perfect, but where is?

So, people, what is good about where you live? cartwheel

RE: "Americans" Lets have some feedback from eveyone!

I agree with this. People, all people, need to remember history and to have a broader world vision. If there is a shift in the balance of power on the world stage, tainogirl, I imagine it will happen over time, not be a sudden event, and the question of who is ready for it or not would be rather moot....we would all be adjusting to it over time, imo.

RE: "Americans" Lets have some feedback from eveyone!

Do you have any idea at all of the irony of this statment coming from a Brit? Or any European?

RE: "Americans" Lets have some feedback from eveyone!

There is in part a valid point to this: actually only 10% of Americans even have a passport, so the vast majority of Americans do not travel outside of North America. The news in America very much reflects the American viewpoint on the world. Americans don't know as much as they could/should about the rest of the world.

However, the idea that America is or has been the only plunderer of the world's resources reflects quite a lack of historical vision. Especially those who call Britain home, I think, should remain aware of the plundering around the world that was done by the British Empire (The sun never sets on the British Empire...remember?) which ended not so many years ago, in the framework of time. So, it is a lot of the pot calling the kettle black to point fingers at the US as far as using power, violence and muscle to subdue and plunder other parts of the world. In fact, many of the problems on the world stage today ar a result of European colonization which took place over the past few centuries.

RE: "Americans" Lets have some feedback from eveyone!

According to Wikipedia, the World Series began in 1903 with teams from Canada and the US (mostly US). Think about the world stage at that point. America was not a superpower. America did not have the type of role or position in world events it does now. The only countries at that time that played baseball were the US and Canada, so to them, the playing of baseball in their world was the international setting of Canada and the US. Putting it into perspective, that is why they called it the World Series. The name just didn't change as times changed and the place of the US on the world stage changed. Now, it is a name that is so thoroughly ingrained in American culture, it would be pretty hard to change. In addition, now other countries such as Japan and Latin American countries play and may be, in future, included in the 'World Series.'
