It's normally ripped apart by the dogs. The 'Hunters' sometimes wipe some of the blood on their faces as a kind of ritual/initiation. I understand that little (if any) of the stag is consumed by the 'Hunters'.
As far as I know their bred especially for the hunt. There's practically zero wild stags. Most of the 'Hunters' come over from England to chase them down.
I'd personally be in favour of a ban. However, a lot of farmers believe legislation in this regard to be the 'thin end of the wedge'.
