Genes and environment. Scientists have long known that schizophrenia runs in families. The illness occurs in 1 percent of the general population, but it occurs in 10 percent of people who have a first-degree relative with the disorder, such as a parent, brother, or sister. People who have second-degree relatives (aunts, uncles, grandparents, or cousins) with the disease also develop schizophrenia more often than the general population. The risk is highest for an identical twin of a person with schizophrenia. He or she has a 40 to 65 percent chance of developing the disorder. We inherit our genes from both parents. Scientists believe several genes are associated with an increased risk of schizophrenia, but that no gene causes the disease by itself.16 In fact, recent research has found that people with schizophrenia tend to have higher rates of rare genetic mutations. These genetic differences involve hundreds of different genes and probably disrupt brain development. Other recent studies suggest that schizophrenia may result in part when a certain gene that is key to making important brain chemicals malfunctions. This problem may affect the part of the brain involved in developing higher functioning skills.18 Research into this gene is ongoing, so it is not yet possible to use the genetic information to predict who will develop the disease. Despite this, tests that scan a person's genes can be bought without a prescription or a health professional's advice. Ads for the tests suggest that with a saliva sample, a company can determine if a client is at risk for developing specific diseases, including schizophrenia. However, scientists don't yet know all of the gene variations that contribute to schizophrenia. Those that are known raise the risk only by very small amounts. Therefore, these "genome scans" are unlikely to provide a complete picture of a person's risk for developing a mental disorder like schizophrenia. In addition, it probably takes more than genes to cause the disorder. Scientists think interactions between genes and the environment are necessary for schizophrenia to develop. Many environmental factors may be involved, such as exposure to viruses or malnutrition before birth, problems during birth, and other not yet known psychosocial factors.Scientists are learning more about brain chemistry and its link to schizophrenia.Different brain chemistry and structure. Scientists think that an imbalance in the complex, interrelated chemical reactions of the brain involving the neurotransmitters dopamine and glutamate, and possibly others, plays a role in schizophrenia. Neurotransmitters are substances that allow brain cells to communicate with each other. Scientists are learning more about brain chemistry and its link to schizophrenia. Also, in small ways the brains of people with schizophrenia look different than those of healthy people. For example, fluid-filled cavities at the center of the brain, called ventricles, are larger in some people with schizophrenia. The brains of people with the illness also tend to have less gray matter, and some areas of the brain may have less or more activity.Studies of brain tissue after death also have revealed differences in the brains of people with schizophrenia. Scientists found small changes in the distribution or characteristics of brain cells that likely occurred before birth.3 Some experts think problems during brain development before birth may lead to faulty connections. The problem may not show up in a person until puberty. The brain undergoes major changes during puberty, and these changes could trigger psychotic symptoms. i really doubt that i could get serious with a man with this type of serious health issue , even though i have a rare physical condition ... i think there is a huge difference between the physical and the mentle health !! anxiety or depression would be as far as i would be willing to deal with , as these are very common. i have friends who are bipolar and schizo and i see the pain they go through !
my parents have been appart for 15 years , yet on paper they are still married , they couldnt afford a legal seperation , never mind an actual divorce ... your question is one that you need to direct to the seperated man ... and then judge for yourself
i didnt think of that !! alot of tattoo places will ask questions before doing a name tattoo and can discourage people from getting partners names , one place in cork will actually refuse to do them if its a gf/bf !
alot of pubs dont do the offer year round , only at xmas , i rarely buy a 7 up in a pub , its a total rip off !! they should really do something to encourage people to drink minerals ! some places wont even serve tap water
thanks !! im just a bit disheartened in my search as anyman i meet either online or in real life , finds it strange i dont drink !! just wanted to see what other people thought of it !
i have been off the drink for almost two years now . i just got sick of it and dont miss it at all , yet when i tell people that i dont drink , the reaction from some people is what you would exspect if i told them i had some contagious disease .
why is it if you dont drink in irish society today you are seen as being "boring" ?
i suspect these stories about him will keep emerging , he is better off dropping out and cutting his losses !! he really seems to have alot of dirty laundry only waiting to be aired !!
einsteins wife had to write their address down for him so he could get a taxi home in the evening as he didnt know hes own address , says even more about my point haha
awww :( i reckon some women have done a few of these too , mothers may want their sons not to be single , but they are hell bent on not having single daughters !!!!
Thanks to the internet, a quick little snapshot of just about anyone’s life can be found simply by Googling their name. So if you find yourself up late at night typing an ex-girlfriend's name into the search box, wondering what she's been up to and hoping maybe, just maybe, you guys could work out your decade-old differences, you should stop immediately and take a long, cold shower.
2. You consider your mother’s dating advice
It is hard-coded in a mother’s DNA to try and help their single sons find a date. Unfortunately, that usually involves her best friend’s hairdresser’s cousin who ends up being a hefty, hairy spinster with buzzing ovaries. So, relenting to mommy’s matchmaking prowess is definitely a step backward. That isn’t to say you should completely ignore this rich source of potential girlfriends.
3. You play too many video games
Getting your fill of video games while you are single is a good idea. When you do eventually hook up with a girl there’s a good chance your gaming days are over. But putting in endless hours of Wii antics a night is bad for your body, your brain and your chances of ever getting laid again.
4. You look at female friends as potential girlfriends
Complete strangers are ignoring your advances, speed dating takes too long, your computer is too slow for internet dating, so what’s left? Your friends, of course. They like you enough to hang out once in a while, so is it such a stretch to take it to the next level?
5. You surf mail-order bride sites just out of curiosity
Envisioning a lonely, solitary future can drive some men to take very desperate measures like ordering a bride off the internet rather than facing the prospect of cooking and cleaning for themselves forever.
6. You get a cat
It’s perfectly reasonable for anyone forced to go without companionship for a long stretch of time to seek friendship in a pet. But before you go running off to the pet store in search of camaraderie, there is one immutable fact you need to consider: Girls think that guys who own cats are weird.
7. Your dating standards plummet
It would seem that going without action for too long lets certain chemicals build up in a man’s brain. Because much like beer, the concentration can build up and soon enough the dumpy girl down at the video store or the 40-year-old cougar at your local watering hole starts to look pretty damn good.
8. You gush about your feelings to women
What’s another sure sign that you’ve been single for too long? You answer your female acquaintances’ small talk questions like, “How are you doing?” with long, emotional diatribes on your lonely single life. Even that cute barista making your morning coffee can be overwhelmed with deep, personal insights as you desperately search for some female compassion.
9. You develop bad eating habits
It takes a lot of effort to cook for one, and falling into the age-old trap of eating like a bachelor is easy. It’s also really unhealthy and kind of gross. If your cupboards are filled with food that can be cooked in less than five minutes, you’ve probably been on your own for too long.
10. You assume you repulse all women When a girl walks by and smiles, most guys take it as an ego-boosting compliment. But being single for a prolonged period can start to wear on your confidence. Before you know it you start assuming these flirtatious glances are really smirks at your expense, probably aimed at your frumpy hair or bad outfit. Confidence is one of the most important things a girl looks for in a guy. Losing confidence often happens when you are out of the game for too long, and attracting anyone (let alone someone you are actually interested in) will be difficult.
found this on a blog , so said i would share it with all you guys here on the irish forums !!!
i think people have just been here too long , there doesnt seem to be much fresh blood floating round the place, iv tried another website , and iv actually had men reply to my mails , unlike on here where all i get is scam mails
RE: Schizophrenia
then you have gentic mutations that happen in the womb , such as downs syndrome ect ...
