She has lived all her life
Thinking of what might have been
Seeing only black and white
And never feeling anything
She's a woman all alone
With her mind
Never loved the man she married
Could have done better so she thought
Always looking to be free
But chained to a mental block
She's a woman all alone
with her mind
Never moves forward
Only lives in the past
Hard to the core
Her mind's in a cast
Can't get ahead of yesterday
Will not change her attitude
No nerve to change her ways
She'll always be alone and blue
She's a woman all alone
with her mind
She has lived all her life
Thinking of what might have been
Seeing only black and white
And never feeling anything
She's a woman all alone.............

About this poem:
I wrote this in 1993. In 2001 I realized it was actually about my own life. So, I made changes in that life.

I had a flat tire on a lonely country road
When she came along in her hot pink Olds
She asked if she could do anything for me
All I could do, was drool on my knee
Her hair was long and black and her skin was ivory
When she stood up she was all of six foot three
Her hot burning lips began to speak again
All I could do, was drool down my chin
Her hair was long and black
She had looks that would last
My mind was going slack
She had legs up to her.....
Then I heard my Momma cry!!
"Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away
Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away"
She came right over and stood right next to me
While I kept staring at the scenery
She asked me what the problem with the car could possibly be
All I could do, was drool on my sleeve
She fixed my tire just as easy as can be
While my eyes kept going glazy
As she drove away she turned and waved goodbye
All I could do. was drool on my ........ Tie
Her hair was long and black
She had looks that would last
My mind was going slack
She had legs up to her.....
Then I heard my Momma cry!!
"Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away
Mind your manners son that's somebodies daughter
Be careful what you say or they will take you away"

About this poem:
Actually a song I wrote 15 years ago - still get a kick out of it though.

Why do you write poetry?
Is it for the recognition?
Maybe for the glory, or just to see if someone,
somewhere is even listening.
Do you make up stories of pure fiction?
Or are you just desperate for some attention.
Why is it so important to be noticed, to be heard,
To be thought of as a voice of reason?
Maybe it is just an addiction, like smoking or drinking.
You can never get enough.
Nothing will satisfy the hunger or need.
But what is that need that habitually leads,
To that feeling of “I have to be seen”, “I have to be read”,
“I have to be understood”.
But in fact, you do not have a clue as to why you are the brain’s food.
So keep writing, keep going within,
Making up stories, telling the truth, hurting others and deceiving yourself,
And maybe someday you will see,
It has just always been about you and your need.

You get only one life, this is it!
This is not a trial run for another hit or miss
We all have but one chance to do it right
To make others happy, to give hope to life
So, do not terry, and never pout
This one chance will soon be out
Our lives are a blessing, use your time wisely
And when the end comes, you will be smiling
And if you do get to come back and try again
Everyone will remember you for what you have been
So, live your life as you wish
You get only one life, this is it!
