If it's not broken... don't (try to) fix it.

I should heed my own advice about changing out old computer parts. Two computers failed last month and are being replaced. The good thing is the hard drives are intact and I'm able to save most of the data contained on them.

Unfortunately, some licensed programs I got free cannot be replaced or would now require payment.

I found a 2gig spare video card and installed into a spare computer I haven't used in a while and now, it's giving error messages. The drivers are updated but I'm unable to troubleshoot... for lack of time. It's quicker to remove the video card and revert back to the onboard video.

I tried removing 4 gigs of RAM from a dead computer and put into a computer with 4gigs expecting 8 gigs... it won't boot now, so I reverted back to a working computer with 4 gigs.

If it's not broken... don't (try to) fix it.

Okay, Okay... no more swapping parts and upgrades... for today.
Tomorrow is a different story!

This, that, and whatever...

I bought a new cell phone a couple of weeks ago. My old one was going out on me as far as the screen goes. The screen started fading and doing some weird stuff. My old phone was a LG Stylo 5. I got it last year when my other LG Stylo 5 phone went out on me since I just made it before the one year warranty went out on it. This time I just missed it by about three week over. I'll never buy a LG phone again.

My new one is a Samsung Galaxy S13. So far I'm happy with it. We'll continue seeing how this one will go....

The CS wish list...

If I could have some CS wishes, my list wouldn't be too long. Well, maybe it would. The first request would be to be able to view profiles without them knowing and not giving up the ability of knowing who view me. Kinda like having your cake and eating it too. Going stealth has it's drawbacks. Unfortunately as simple of a request could have everyone using it and soon no one would 'see' any profiles here.

Another request would be to log on and appear offline. All the hits I get are within the first 20 minutes of being online as members float to the top of the list of who's online by the order of when they log on.

Allow foreign (Asian) languages so we read what they say in their language when they don't know English.
Chinese, Japanese, Thai, also Russian.

Waiting on an update and reboot...

My work computer is rebooting... It stays online 24/7 and I only reboot when necessary.
The video refresh hasn't been right for a few weeks now and I went to the manufacturer of the video board to install new drivers.
Almost done. We shall see.

I will say the reboot process has improved since I switched to Google Chrome, as all my resources come back online after the reboot. Email, Calendar and business apps via Streak and Asana.

Quad copters large enough to carry a pilot...

Different than my previous blog about a flying car, a quad copter is a large-scale drone with sufficient lift to carry a person and not be flown remotely.
Toyota has a SkyDrive prototype and claim to be the first. That's not accurate as other companies have been testing prototypes for several years.

Only good for 5 to 10 minute flights, it's far from being practical.

Smart Appliances...

This is worse than a disease... People are spending more on appliances than the kitchen that goes around them.
$10,000 for a refrigerator?
It can Wi-Fi to your phone, so if you want one with a camera to see what's inside without having to open the door... they cost that and more!

Appliances are now linked to the internet so you can access your appliances anywhere.

Washers and dryers also fall into the remote control category. You are alerted by the app on your phone when the dry cycle is done, no need to run downstairs to the laundry room to check.

One drawback: they can be hacked in the same way people are hacking doorbell camera systems.

Smart appliances... maybe not smart enough?

Today's annoyance: Drop Down Menus...

I went to the Home Depot site, typed in a selection and before I could choose from the options, the drop-down menu got in the way and I had to back arrow and start again.

Local weather channel has a hair-trigger drop down menu that takes a few seconds to release to let you make a selection from the main page.

One of the helicopter retailers has a series of 'land mines' that drop down with pop-ups that force the user to wait before making selections. Crossing your mouse over a menu opens other (unwanted) menus that lock waiting for graphics to generate. Sometimes it's quicker to close the page and open a new one bypassing the delay in the system.

Say goodbye to Internet Explorer...

Today is the official day that Microsoft discontinues support for Internet Explorer in Windows 10. Hard to believe, but IE has been around nearly 27 years and now and it's fading away.
Microsoft Edge has been the replacement for some time now. To help with a few compatibility issues, there is an IE mode in Edge that will be supported until 2029, so if you really need IE on a site where Edge doesn't function, a working version is in the background.

Rarely did I need IE and have been using Firefox for years. Although it's buggy at times, I'm most comfortable with the interface. I tried Safari, but it lacked features. Except for a zoom magnification feature I liked, I stopped using it.
If you are using Google products, I would expect you to be married to Google Chrome, simply because it goes hand-in-hand with many of the Google add-on products, especially things used in business. It's operation is seamless, especially with cloud based applications.

In the event it removes a file (or files) I may need in the future, I don't plan to uninstall IE. I'll only delete it from my taskbar. Out of sight, out of mind.
