I can think of a few possible reasons

1. Man meets woman, she's kind, caring, intelligent etc, they never argue. After 4 months of dating he decides he'd like to be with someone more assertive so even tough she seems perfect to others, to him she's not

2. Man meets woman, she has all the attributes he desires in a womane but he's not emotionally ready for this relationship. Can be a number of reasons, a recent breakup, not wanting a relationship. So in this case timing plays a big part.

I can relate but under different circumstances

When my daughter was 9mths old I came close to losing her, she spent a week in intensive care and a month in hospital. Truly terrifying.
