"build it, they will come" (to a new field of dreams).
on a serious note,
i'm all for helping. i just want folks to do it with their eyes open, have a plan, and appreciate that it takes a lot more than money for successful integration. and that can't happen till the folks who are already citizens are included. it doesn't have to be an either or.
and this isn't going to go away. and it's not limited to syria.
it going to require thinking as a global citizen me thinks, making some changes, and accepting life is not going to be the same.
1 in 5 children in canada live in poverty. 40% of indigenous children live in poverty. 1 in 7 people (almost 5 million) live in poverty. 1 in 10 people can't afford to fill medical prescriptions. 1 in 8 families struggle to put food on the table. as many as 1.3 million canadians have experienced homelessness over the past five years. 200,000 people are homeless each year. folks with disabilities are twice as likely to live below the poverty line. 1 in 5 racialized families families live in poverty. 15% of elderly single folks live in poverty. 13% of canadians live in a state of food instability.
would an interim measure be to accept refugees on a temporary basis without landed immigrant stat... we don't have time to build arcs..so would military bases work while homeland cleanup takes place somehow?
thank you as i know the popular answer 'round these parts' is that no one can say anything that's any thing less than walt disney regarding syrian refugees, so a bit nervous about my post, but i do stand behind it.
i am quite certain we all have had our turns. finding that balance between the absurd and the substantial is sometimes beyond personal control in the moment.
hiya lg she was soooo cute! a cross between two breeds which made her kind of a pink color and her ears stood straight out. she was also part dwarf. she was really a lot like a puppy and followed ya everywhere she could. downside...they're really stinky....
this is a great question, and a good idea for a thread...hint hint
there have been lots.... i've been spoiled.... so i don't have a favourite
without giving too many secrets away... here's one:
it was getting near midnight on new year's eve... sitting at home watching tv with no plans that i knew of.
i was told to get my coat and we were going for a drive. He drove us to the beach, parked, turned up the heat, and opened the sun roof and we watched the stars while listening to a cd with some of my favourite tunes that he had made. at midnight we watched the fireworks down the beach, and up the mountain, from the comfort of our own little piece of paradise. it was magical, and i was amazed that we were the only car there.
Question:
same question.... what is the most romantic gesture you have given or received?
i really enjoy scrabble and it's not so much who wins, but the lame made up words (usually under the influence...lol) that make me laugh. we have a 'rule' that if a word is challenged...one must use it in a sentence....and that's the part that gets us laughing.
(we actually don't play against each other. we add up both scores for a total and see how we did compared to previous games.)
RE: "The Question Game"
