Ask a South African anything? New Series!

Howdy Folks, grin I have this idea whereby we can all participate in knowledge sharing. I'm sure we all like traveling abroad & what better way to do it if you're armed with some knowledge. thumbs up
OK! So this is how it works...starting here today...A CS member will post a blog on his country.....others can ask questions & answers can follow.
I'll go with South Africa first!
So, then hopefully others will follow ....Aus, NZ, Sweden, France, Germany, Indo, etc!
Coz, truly, we all just have perceptions of other places, not facts.

Just so that everyone knows where South Africa is..at the bottom of Africa.

Total land area of slightly more than 1.2-million sq km. 25th largest country in the world, 24th most populous country with over 51 million people.
South Africa is a multi-ethnic nation and has diverse cultures and languages. We have Africans, Chinese, Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Indian, Taiwanese, Japanese, Russians, Malayans, Arabs...the whole dang kabooty here!
I think we're the only country in the world to have two independent countries withing our boundaries; Swaziland & Lesotho.

I got her! She's back!

I'm so relieved! applause She has been missing since 3pm yesterday - I didn't sleep a wink the whole night and spent the best part of this morning driving around, looking for her...
Ever since my divorce a few years ago, she has been my close & constant companion, sleeping in the same bedroom, accompanying me to the shops and sometimes even to work and on my daily walks around my neighborhood.
I was fraught with worry & anxiety...send out a few Face-book messages & mails to out local block & neighborhood watch.....
It paid of...got a tip-of where she was locked up & released her at 2pm today!

Silly girl had run of in the opposite direction, during a sudden lightning & thunderstorm - away from home! She was on the street when it occurred...
But I just so happy to get her back from the SPCA, where a kind lady had dropped her of for safekeeping.... Joy to the world!

Sleep: Your stories of weird sleep behaviour

A recent article on the weird things people do in their sleep prompted many emails from readers about the odd things they have done. BBC website....

Here's some interesting ones....conversing

Josh Bliszko, Milton Keynes: I have a history of doing activities in my sleep ranging from eating to rummaging through the bottom of my wardrobe. My latest trick is changing light bulbs. And no, the light bulbs don't even require changing.

James, Bath: My wife watched me walk out of the house, get into my car and drive off. I returned 15 minutes later. It only happens occasionally and one particular time I got in the car and returned over an hour later. Having filled the car the previous day, I was able to calculate the mileage from the reset milometer. I had driven 35 miles. Nowadays my wife hides our car keys each night, I go for walks.

Peter Ramm, Stockport: I have done many strange things. I have woken up in the middle of the garden in the middle of the night sitting at the garden table. I was totally naked with cigar in one hand and cup of tea in the other. I have woken up inside the wardrobe in a hotel dreaming that I had gone blind. It was, of course, pitch black inside the wardrobe. I once came to in a hotel tidying my hair in my room mirror. I then realised that I was stark naked and the mirror was in fact a window at the end of a corridor on a different floor from where I was sleeping.

So, what weird thing do you do? dunno Haha...laugh Don't tell me: "Post blogs in your sleep?"

Kamel's Friday night Soap Opera

Yes, the azzhole was here as usual, together with with his kiddie art stuff. Red's pic was violated and I again made it to his front page also! applause Fame, at last! I politely pointed I had tricked him (yet again) by posting a fake pic for his special "attention". I had also know he was "CrustyPie", his 1 day fake profile - hell! he could even call himself Crusty the Clown & I'll know it right away. grin Last month, I unearthed yet another of his fake profiles....3 strikes he was out of the game! scold I let him know it! I mean you can't mess around with a Saint, right? Did he not watch Roger More in The Saint? innocent The disappointment was reflected in his writing cause a few minutes later; he decided to call it a night (or so he declared). At that moment a friend of mine appeared & we went of to our local pub. 2 hrs later, am back on CS & see a blog: "love for camel". Earlier this blogger had admitted some kind of addition to alcohol & I now thought this was an addition blog for camel cigarettes! smoking
Horrors of horrors - here was an open declaration of love for the beast! wow Now, that didn't upset me; I mean, even skunks deserve love right? But the azzhole himself was strutting his show, like some glorified peacock, amidst his groupie gal club dancing - even posting a couple of his pics! Els bells; this was getting to be like another Truman show! laugh
So, in the usual affable El style, I made following post:

Enough of the soapie stuff, camel - Tell us when did the mental illness begin? I mean, just to bring him back to reality... dunno
Went to get a pot of tea, came back & the blog was gone! Along with the earlier camel crap! Now was I wrong in my posting?

The one pic of camel I managed to download before the blog got deleted. Does he look like the sick, mental retard psychopath we know? Or is he just another lonely kid that took the wrong turn?

Asteroid Flies by Earth Thursday

Don't worry! You're safe!
A newfound asteroid that may be the size of three football fields will whiz by Earth on Thursday (Sept. 13), and you can watch the close encounter live online.

Asteroid 2012 QG42 is between 625 feet to 1,400 feet wide (190 to 430 meters) and was first spotted by scientists last month. Researchers say the space rock has no chance of hitting Earth this week when it makes its closest approach on Thursday.

The asteroid will pass by at a safe distance of about 7.5 times the Earth-moon distance. The moon is, on average, about 238,000 miles from Earth.

Asteroid 2012 QG42 is, however, listed as a "potentially hazardous asteroid" by the Minor Planet Center at Cambridge, Mass., meaning it may pose a threat in the future.

At least two online observatories are tracking the asteroid's pass by Earth.
